I seem to have MediaPortal running sweet at the moment. Version 1 on a fresh install of Vista with Minor Tweaks for the remote runs great and the WAF (thus me as well) is very happy.

The Wife and kids are away for 3 weeks soon and it is time to tinker. What plugins do people recommend - find they cannot live without?

What tweaks would you suggest I do?
Can anyone watch you tube from Media Portal?
What is the best music player to for my MP3 - should I set up itunes as a external player or something else.

Is there a way to launch applications (ie firefox) from within mediaportal an return upon closing it down.

lol I love it!

Check out 4therecord ( ) It replaces the tvclient plug-in with its own which can do everything that the original can do plus more advanced record scheduling like if say shortland st was 1hr on mon and half an hour tue-fri instead of having to make to schedules to handle it (because otherwise if you set it to rec mon-fri in the original mediaportal it would rec 1hr every day at that time)You could just use one that records shortland street BTW 18:30-20:00 mon-fri and it would sort it, plus it wouldn't keep recording in that time slot even after the series had finished.
It does some other cool stuff like web access to set schedules and an IM Bot so you can talk to your PC from wherever with MSN Messenger; I haven't tried these yet though.
If you install it then uninstall it you may need to do a full mediaportal reinstall as it seems to embed itself into mediaportal quite allot, plus I can't reset the tvservice in windows anymore it just hangs, something to do with the integration, no biggie though for me, if I make changes to the service I just reset the machine, Just letting ya know :)
Its also Handy for sky channels as you can skip repeats.

Do a search for 'youtube' in the mediaportal forums, there is some plugins that play youtube vids, I've never had much luck though.

ForTheRecord broke my fresh 1.0 release, though they mightve updated it.

I like MovingPictures a lot.

Oh that sux, I know 1.3.1 had issues with unloading the cards after stopping timshifting so you wouldn't be able to start timeshift again untill a re-start, But 1.3.2 has been good for me, probably the most stable ive had mediaportal in quite some time actually, I think for my PC its better to let the computer go into standby by itself rather then use powersceduler to do it (as you have to with 4therecord) so maybe its happier now its doing this...

As exdee said, Moving Pictures.

My favourite plugin if you have TV shows is 'My TVSeries' It really adds to the professional look of the MP front-end. One thing I had issues with was getting the plugin's config to recognise the files properly. I had to set within very specific paths ie. I had to set media file 3 folders deep from root, eg. "H:\TVShows\Babylon 5\Season 1\1.01-Midnight On The Firing Line.mkv"

Here are some screenshots to really get your blood boiling, maybeCool

Oh, if you want to tweak, try the Indigo 2.4 skin. I think exdee might agree, judging from his handle on the thanks list.

Thanks Guys.

Yes TV series looks good - Great screen shoots. However I will steer clear of 4the record at the moment as I don't want to break Mediaportal majorly.
Moving Pictures also looks worth a try.
Multishortcut: It allow launching of apps for Media portal directly also sound worth a look

I think my this of Things to do so far is
Power Scheduler - experiment with what settings are best/work with Vista
External MP3 Player - Must get it working with Happengue Remote - I-tunes maybe?
Set up My TV Series
Set up Moving Pictures
Try out Multishortcut
Launch MediaPortal from my remote

May also look at getting a Harmony remote - see dick smith has the 785 on sale for $149 - must be new model here soon.

This will keep me busy.

Does anyone have thoghts on MediaPortal's power Scheludler working ok?
Also any recomendations on on Itunes or the like?

I just recently installed My TV Series, and its excellent. Slight issue with file naming conventions, but down loaded rename bulk utility to rename files in bulk and now its fine.

Remote wise, i bought a 6 quid cyberlink control as i didnt want to spend much as i will be getting a new tv card soon that comes with a nice remote. but for 6 quid is brilliant. Controls everything it should (after downloading the cyberlink plugin), also launches mediaportal from control. Doesnt look so beautiful, but for 6 squid you cant complain.

Will try the moving pictures thing.

Also, My Trailers is very good, uses the aple site for latest trailers.

My 2c

Moving Pictures - Organise all your movies into a cool list with pictures etc
MP TV-Series - Same as above but for TV Series
mVids - Similar to above, but for music videos.  Not quite as fancy.
Multishortcut - Allows you to launch external apps within mediaportal. (I use it to launch WMP for playing music)
Shortcut'er - Allows you to map keyboard shortcuts to MP Plugins, eg. Hit CTRL+SHIFT+M to load moving pictures, you can then add the CTRL+SHIFT+M shortcut to the videos button on your remote
Indigo - Best looking skin IMHO
MST MCE Standby Tool - Solved my problems with occasional blank screen on S3 resume
Mentalinc's EPG Grabber - EPG Grabber i use for Freeview + PrimeTV
My Trailers - Great plugin for viewing movie trailers. (Tip - you don't need SAF or that quicktime download, just have PDVD8, (from MPC-HC) and (from MPC-HC installed)

Don't recommend you using for the record, until your more familiar with MP.  I looked at installing it, but if you read the pdf documentation, you will see that it is a fairly complicated install, with a lot of settings to change.

Plugins I havn't used yet looks like a very cool plugin, but havn't tried it yet.  It uses audioscrobber to choose youtube music videos based on your preferences.

Here's one you might want to consider for music playback.

The ASIO music plugin apparently can playback bitperfect music for you audiophiles. Others state the sound is far superior to the BASS default player.

I could not get the MPI installer to function correctly: I kept losing my plugins from within MP>config. I am using an older 1.0RC4 version. So that might have something to do with it.

I will retry when I've updated to v1.01 which is out soon.
