Hi, apologies if this has been covered - I have an oldish Samsung TV (UA50TU8500SXNZ) that has recently started displaying ads on the home screen. I had it set to auto update so I assume I "accepted" the ads during one of the updates but I can't see in the settings anywhere to turn it off.

I have emailed Samsung Privacy and not heard back.

Does anyone know how to turn this off or escalate it higher? It's an awful feature.

I know it's not helpful but I immediately thought of that common sentence "We take your privacy and security seriously."

You think they would include an option to disable ads under settings lol 😆

Lucky it still works, I guess. Mine got painfully slow to the point it was unusable even after a factory reset. After that I just avoid SmartTVs (and Samsung products in general) and use an Android box or RaspberryPi.

A Pihole will block these (they do on our 2021 frame) but, I find it ridiculous that they feel like they need to put ads on a $2000+ TV. I also see today there are reports of them pushing ads to their smart fridges.
I’d get it if it was a $300 TV subsidised by ads but in most cases they’re premium models.

I’ll never buy another Samsung TV because of this.
