Pretty sure it was this thread https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=34&topicid=315502 where my last TV purchase recommendation came from and I ended up with a Sony Bravia 55" X85J which ive been super happy with, the sound is amazing which was one of my important criteria. I now need a slightly larger TV for a different room and am thinking 60-65".

I noticed this weekend HN have a Samsung 65" U8500F Smart 4K UHD TV (2025) with Tizen OS for $888 which sounds incredibly well priced.

Is anyone familiar with this TV and can comment/compare to my X85J? It say it has Tizen OS which I have no idea about, but can say the whole GoogleTV thing on the Sony im not really too convinced about. This TV will mainly be app streaming, NetFlix, TVNZ etc. It will be in the corner of a big room and will be on an articulated wall mount and probably infrequently used compared to my other TV.

$888 is basically $1k so i guess my budget is around that range.

Am I nuts to move away from Sony? I guess im also a little confused with the new Sony models 3/5/8 etc and how they compare to the X85J

The X85J's panel is 100Hz while the U8500F's panel is 50Hz so its motion should be less smooth. Average Samsung reliability should be lower than a Sony or LG.

The Bravia 3 should be similar to the X85J except it has a 50Hz panel.

The Bravia 5 has miniLED backlights and more speakers so quite an upgrade, $2,148 at 65".

The Bravia 8 is an OLED.

Thank you, kinda what i was thinking, the Bravia 5 looked like the one but just a little over the top pricewise for a second room. I flagged the U8500 as it lacked toslink audio out which my soundbar needs so went for this... i notice it is a 50hz panel also but was hoping the fact it is QLED would make it slightly better quality than the U8500 for around the same price.

If its rubbish compared to the Sony, I guess I can move my X85J to that room and look at a Bravia 5 to replace it.
