I rented the Quantum of Solace blu-ray and Powerdvd 7.3 decided that it needed an update in order to play the disc. After installing the update, the blu-ray worked fine.

Now, however, mediaportal has no h.264 decoder. Going to the config screen reveals an empty dropbox where it used to list the cyberlink decoder. It doesn't seem to register that I've got the powerdvd decoder on my system.

Does anybody have any idea what this could be? A google search yielded me one thread in which someone mentioned that one version of 7.3 makes the decoder unavailable to external programs, but I couldn't find any further mention of this issue anywhere. Is there a fix? I'd prefer to be able to watch Quantum AND watch freeview if possible :D

I'm using Vista.

Cyberlink has decided for PDVD7, 8 and 9 no other players can use its codecs.
I would refer you to a mediaportal thread but their forums are down.

Oh wow. That's horrible. Where can I get an alternative codec (preferably supporting hardware decoding)?

I'm having to record tv and then watch it in VLC at the moment, hahah!

I use 7.3 but was unaware of the this version being subjected to the third party player restrictions. I had disabled PowerDVD upgrades some time back, so maybe that was it.

I get sick of this type of crippling in all parts of the corporate world. All it does is provoke dissatisfaction by their clientele & then they stick the finger when other otions present themselves & they wonder why there's no loyalty towards their products.
