Quick one, does win7mc make use of purevideo on nvidia cards natively or do you need something like powerdvd installed?

Yes it makes use of any HW acceleration the card has without any extra codecs installed

it will also use the ATI and intel h.264 h/w acceleration although the results appear to be mixed for the other technologies
