Hi,

What is the difference between the Pioneer SC-LX71 and VSX-LX70 Home Theatre systems?
Both look good on paper, but I am struggling to see the difference in specifications.

The key difference seems to be that LX71 supports 1080P transferring at 24/50/60 Hz whereas the LX70 is only at 60Hz.  What does this actually mean?  If I had a LX70 and any Blue Ray DVDs that I might get that are not at 60Hz get up-frequencied to 60Hz !?   Is this important?

Anyone aware of any other differences?

Is the LX70 a good amp?

Thanks

Mike

From memory (looked at both models about 6 months ago) the LX-71 has new innards in it (power side not just processing). They changed the prefix from VSX to SC because it supposedly has more in common with high end Pioneer gear.
The VSX-70 was basically the same as my AX4 in a black case with newer 1080p upscale/upconversion. Still a very capable Receiver if you can get it cheap.

Neither in the end.
I went to the other end of the market and bought an Onkyo tx-SR606 and teamed it up with my Panna PZ850 and some wharfdale rs-10s in the lounge.

I am still using my AX4, which only passes up to 1080i, in the HT room.  My projector is only 1080i as well so by setting the Samsung Blu-Ray player to LPCM I get some (but not full) HD goodness.  The power side of the AX4 still acquits itself really well.  Priorities at the moment are 1080p projector first then a receiver to suit.

As far as retailers in Auckland go, I have been looked after with a lot of my AV gear by:

Paul Money Hi-Fi (2 stores now Mt Eden and Northridge Albany)

JB-HiFi (Albany)

Both are pretty competitive, particularly when compared to some of the chain stores.

Hi Ding,

thanks for the advice. I have checked out both JB and PM, and hopefully they will come up with some more specials on the Pioneer gear in the not too distant future.
