Please can anyone help. I bought a dreambox 500s with smartcard reader in 2008 which allowed paid Sky and satelitte tv work. With the rugby finished- I cancelled Sky but had it renewed a week ago with anticipation of putting my card back into the dreambox. Unfortunately it does not work any longer on the dreambox but does on the sky box. Can someone assist in how to get the dreambox operational again please

There's some older forum posts on sky TV legally on a HTPC, you might want to look there.

Otherwise there are two other bits I could suggest:
- Have you got the basic Sky Digital box or have you got a MySky HDI box?
The cards are different from what I can gather, and the MySky HDI box card doesn't work as easily.

-There are apparently 2 different types of basic Sky Digital box cards so you might have the type that doesn't work so well. You might have to contact Sky to let them know you've lost your card, pay $30 fee and hope the card they send you is the other type. Then you can return the original card for a refund of the $30.

Others here know far more on this than I do.

thanks- i asked on the chatroom but got lost with jargon albeit some understanding guys were there. No I have the basic digital box- and for some apparent reason , the colour of the card is important too- both were gold. I have tried a friends card as well but to no avail.
Also interesting is the imparja and SBS channels went Feb 2008 which was loaded on when I got the dreambox. I gather this is an issue with keys, but I dont have a clue what they are, nor how to load it in on the box.

Imparja is no longer available, SBS is still on C1 and receivable, encrypted as it was before.

As Jaxson said, some cards will not work as you intend it to.

I really appreciate everyones input- I have read and will re-read the idioits guide many more times. Very good starter and I have learnt alot more already. I have yet to get the sky re-working nor SBS but with a few more weeks of reading I hope to get there. After one fight with my wife threatening to throw the dreambox away, and many quotes saying it is the most frustrating but rewarding box you can buy- I have experienced alot about life in the year I have owned it

Klathman's post, about half way down: - Blue cards work, Gold don't.

I'm not sure about the dream box. I have heard that they've always been able to decode our gold cards but haven't been able to confirm this other than the mate heard a mate talking about what a mate said type thing.

If it worked before with a gold card then there shouldn't be any reason for it not to now.
