Hi,

This should be a simple question....

Looking at buying a bigger HDTV screen.
As I run off Telstra Clear cable and it's feed is digital I'm assuming that I don't need a HD tuner to recevice those channels that are provided by "Freeview". Is the HD tuner used for anything else ?

I guess I cannot move from telstra without having to buy a "Freeview" set top box in the future by not buying a TV with the HD tuner but is there anything else that I have missed that might bite me in the future ?

Regards

TelstraClear may be digital and using a digital tuner, but then the decoder is doing all the work and converting it to something viewable for the tv.  Then you use your svideo or composite connection tot he tv.  There is no HD on TelstraClear currently.  And plugging your tv into the TCL cable will show you some rebroadcast channels, but they are the equivalent to the current analogue signals - no freeview.

You can move off telstra with any tv and get the regular FTA (not freeview) - but as I said before, on telstra clear (with the TCL decoder) you are technically not getting freeview yet anyway.

So you could hold off getting a freeview HD box, or not get a tv with integrated freeview, but your picture will look pretty bad.  In saying that, any picture off the telstraclear decoder box will look pretty bad as it's not HD.

I'd recommend if you can afford it get the integrated tuner. But you will need a UHF aerial, and you should confirm that you have access to the DVB-T signal.
