Hi all,

I'm thinking about installing W7 so the wife can get FreeviewHD right in WMC.

All my data is on a separate partition to the operating system, so I was going to take an image of my existing Vista partition, wipe it, then install W7.  If I don't like W7, then I can just re-install the image I took.

Two concerns about doing this:
(1) Will W7 do anything to my data partitions (ie indexing, creating thumbnails, etc) that will make it problematic if I want to revert back to Vista?
(2) Will W7 WMC be able to play all our recorded TV files? (DVRMS files)

I'm pretty sure the answer is that it will be fine, but just wanted to check before I start.

If you have space why don't you just dual boot Vista and W7? That's what I have done, and

(1) my media files are in separate drives from the OSes. Both seem to access them okay, I don't have any DVRMS files tho' (2).

I can confirm that win 7 plays dvr-ms files no problem. I had a bunch recorded using vista-pre tv pack and they work fine. There is also an inbuilt wtv -> dvr-ms converter in win 7 so you can use comskip software, etc
