Hi Guys,

I just in the last couple of days  set up mediaportal on a htpc i built.
It has two hauppage nova-s plus cards in it.

Everything is working fine (though it seems mediaportal isn't 100% stable yet).
Except.. I use subtitles quite a bit.. My LG has freeview built in and on that I can press the sub button which brings up the subtitle streams, this is different to the teletext 801 subtitles..

When I try and bring up subtitles in mediaportal it just says they aren't any.  Are they supported in mediaportal? or are they not supported on dvb-s and just on dvb-t?

Are these subs using mheg? (does mediaportal support mheg?)

I posted this in the mediaportal forums but didn't really get any conclusive answers..

Interesting question. I have never seen any subtitle streams whilst watching DVB-S transmissions using MP, which I always took to mean that they were not transmitted. Given that they were transmitted on the analog service, there is probably no reason why they cannot be sent over DVB-S though, so perhaps you need a Freeview STB to decode and display them.

Might be worthwhile trying to borrow a Freeview STB and check it out, or perhaps someone with an STB can check it out and let us know.

Cheers Mike

I have a digistar 811u, that also cannot pick up the subtitle streams that the HD builtin freeview tuner can on dvb-t...

That is just a very cheap receiever though, the teletext subtitles work but not the other type.

I have heard lots of generic products made for lots of countries don't support mheg5 which nz freeview uses but i am unsure if mheg5 is used for the subtitles in nz. Very hard to find information. Maybe I should contact freeview.. on mediaportals website they say they support subtitles via teletext and dvb but as far as I can tell mediaportal still doesn't support mheg which is only used in australia, nz and the uk..

I have a nova-s and use subtitles through mediaportal effortlessly (pressing the yellow button at the bottom of my H remote brings them up). Are you sure you've ticked all the necessary boxes in MP configuration?

Yes it can bring up subtitles but they aren't the same subtitles as I am seeing on my LG TV on certain channels, from memory tv1 and tv2 support the different subs (non teletext)

When mediaportal is saying there are no subs on a certain channel I can see them on my LG for that channel.

Other times the subs work but I think mediaportal is just using teletext subtitles which are a different beast.
