Hi all

I'm now running Windows 7 MC with DVB-T on a Hauppage 2200 and I must say it whips Mediaportal, man I'm never going back there - months of tears and frustrations and no WAF with Mediaportal whereas Windows 7 MC just works out of the box.

Anyway, on both my STB and under Mediaportal I had the TVNZ Sport Extra channel, but it's not appearing when I do a scan with Win 7MC. All the other Freeview|HD channels are present. Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?

Thanks

-Matt

Hey mattyboy

Sports Extra no longer exists.. I believe Prime is now in it's place (?)

Good to know WM7 works out of the box with a Hauppage 2200 DVB-T Card.  Tell me, do you have EPG and does MediaCentre record multiple digital channels at a time via the 2200's twin tuners?

Cheers,
Grant

Oh, well that explains it!

Yes I have an EPG. I was using xmlTVNZ by reven with Mediaportal so I continue to use that. I had to install "Big Screen EPG" which takes the tvguide.xml from xmlTVNZ and imports it into Windows 7MC. So I setup one scheduled task to run xmlTVNZ every 3 days and another scheduled task to run Big Screen EPG half an hour later.

As for multiple channel recordings, yes you can record multiple channels at the same time - I scheduled two programs to record tonight, but when I tried to schedule a third recording in the same timeslot it prompted me asking which recording I wanted to keep. I had a recording on TV1 and Prime already scheduled, then I tried schedule something else to record on TV3.

Your next question will probably be if it can record from the same mux using only one tuner... that I haven't tried yet but I'll have a look at it tonight or tomorrow and update this post.

While it's gone TVNZ have said that it could reappear in future as needed for special events.

If they were to do this it would obviously mean a reduced bitrate on the other TVNZ channels on DVB-S to accomodate it.

You can't record multiple channels from the same MUX, only GB-PVR and Media Portal can do this.

Unfortunately there is only now/next + 3 on the DVB-T, however there are a few solutions for getting the full EPG into Win7. Big Screen EPG and mapping the EPG from DVB-S are two options.

The hauppauge HVR2200's work fine as dual dual tuners in Win7. Win7 understands Hybrid tuners now too and won't try to use the analog tuner if it is already using it in digital mode. The only thing it doesn't do is recording multiple streams of the same mux/transponder. I have 6 tuners setup in my Win7 and have recorded 4 channels at a time with no worries.

The statement on the Freeview website says:

TVNZ will no longer be transmitting TVNZ Sport Extra on the Freeview satellite® platform. Transmisson also ceased on Freeview|HD® on Saturday 1st August, 2009. TVNZ says this decision has been made, with regret, because in the current economic climate the company does not have the resources available to maintain or develop a sports channel.

There is no such thing as recording in "MPEG2 or MPEG4". All DVB-T cards pass the full Transport Stream to the PC and this is what's decoding by the PC or written to the file, typically with a .TS filename.

The format this file is in depends on the format it's broadcast in, the TV card itself does no transcoding.
