I'm shopping for a DVB-S card, and of course there's high regard for the Hauppauge Nova-S Plus, but I see that Ascent is stocking a WinTV-Nova-S2 card as well. I assume that this is a DVB-S2 card for ~$30 more. Can I assume that this gets me HD when/if Freeview starts doing HD transmissions? Futureproofing, yeah, that's the one...

Cheers,

Your not going to get any use out of a S2 tuner for Freeview - the Satellite transmissions are SD only, and there are no plans to broadcast S2 at any point in the near future.

The Nova S2 however would make a great Sky HD tuner. They haven't previously been available in NZ. Many of us are using HVR-4000's because of this...

there are no unencrypted DVB-S2 feeds that can be received in NZ as as I know, so the card would have very little use as a DVB-S2 device.
