I have a Panasonic TH-37pv70az and a logitech z-5500 a PS3 and Mysky HDi

I would like to be able to run 5.1 channel sound from mysky to the z-5500. Problem is if I use the coxal or optical out on mysky I cant adjust the volume or mute from the mysky remote. As it only seems to do this by HDMI.

If I bought one of these http://jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID=AC1626&keywords=hdmi&form=KEYWORD
Would it allow me to be able to split the video and audio, Running coxal or optical to the z-5500 and be able to use the volume controlls on the mysky remote?

I hope that make sense!

Thanks

Won't work because HDMI audio output from MySky is only stereo not 5.1

To get 5.1 from MySky (or infact every STB on the market) you have to use the SPDIF output.

That stinks because you can't control the volume with the mysky remote using spdif output

Yes. HDMI from STB's is only 2 channel stereo.

Mysky Hdi had an update on Tuesday and HDMI now outputs 5.1 as a choice in the menu.... I don't think you will be able to mute from the mysky remote though as it just passes the audio stream to your amp....

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Common sense is not as common as you think.
