Evening Geekzone!

Have a problem I would like to get some ideas on please!

I am having trouble getting the audio across an HDMI cable from my laptop to the TV. I have a sony bravia tv and a HP dv9000 laptop. Previously I have been able to switch audio to SPIDF on the laptop plug it into the tv and go! Now for some reason it doesn't even work at all.

When I was playing with it today I could get a split second of audio coming through when I changed to the HDMI input on the tv. This is what is confusing me obviously the laptop is sending the audio but what is the TV doing?

Has anyone had this problem before?

Your tv probably allows the assignment of an analog input to one of the hdmi inputs for when you are using a computer that doesn't have hdmi audio. If it is assigned to that then you will get no audio.

I have a Samsung 32" LCD which I use as both a PC monitor and a tv. It is connected to the PC via an HDMI-DVI cable as my graphics card doesn't have HDMI.

Not sure if it is the same for the Sony tvs, but in my case I had two options:

1) Use a separate 3.5mm audio cable from PC sound card to a dedicated audio-in on one of the HDMI ports on the tv. This was what I was originally doing until I browsed the manual and found that...

2) One of the HDMI tv ports is dedicated to being used with a PC. I had to set the name of that source to something like DVI-PC for both video and sound to come through on the DVI-HDMI cable from the PC.

Number 2 is the cleaner option, and from your post it sounds like option 1 no longer works for you.

Ok, Will have a play around. I haven't tried one of the ports yet as the home theatre connects through there, which might be the one as you explained in part 2.
