Hi

I need some form of Home theatre to go with my lovely Plasma but only have a budget of $700 max (as much as I would like to pay more on a separate system I would be skinned alive)

Any recommendations for a home theatre in a box for under $700?

With or without a disk player? If you already have a player the cost of the HTIAB will be less.

I sent you a PM with some info on a brand new Samsung Blu Ray Home Theatre package that I have (including receipt and warranty). Let me know.

Samsung makes some reasonable ones for that range, the ht-z315 (ive got one) is one. upscales dvd and produces a good sound. The onscreen menu for it is fairly basic to follow, which some see as a plus (me included).

Recently setup a panasonic 470 model, again another nice system, but the menu to do anything on screen was frustrating as hell and convoluted.
Both models are 1000w rms, and produced a pretty good image and sound.
Samsungs are easy to make region free, i can pm you if you want instr. etc on how to do it. Its worked on both a HT-35t and the abpve mentioned 315 model. Unfortunately panasonics require you to take the unit into a repairer to de-zone as the existing remote for most of them is unable to do it (from panasonic themselves). Im unsure about other brands sorry.

i would recommend the Logitech Z5500 System. Only speakers , no CD player or Radio, but they are very good for this price. Rather buy at PB tech not at harvey norman or DSE, cause they have ridiculous prices there.....

HTIB **shudders** wait and save for a proper system would be my advise.

Yeah proper systems are better, but for something like a bedroom:

I have the Sony DAV-IS10, I paid $399 for it about a year ago at Harveys. The new model the DAV-IS50 is into clearance mode in most places now, you'd be able to bargain it down to about 600 i reckon(it was $599 at the Sony Outlet store a month ago, but has sold out)

While it doesn't match my Onkyo/Wharfedale setup in my lounge, it's great for watching the occasional movie or playing my PS3 in bed

For the above Panasonic one, there is a remote unlocking code which worked successfully for my panasonic HTIB, just need the model number and about 30 minutes worth of running through google
