Hi

Trying to connect a friends computer to their tv, problem is the tv doesn't show the colours correctly see pic, take note of the colour issues around the windows symbol in the centre and bottom left corner bright spots.

When playing video the colours look really bad and the screen kinda flickers.

Using a DSE DVI to HDMI cable (10m) http://www.dse.co.nz/dse.shop/en/product/XH9592 any ideas would be great.

Using windows 7 with Nvidia 190.62

What sort of TV? And what resolution are you trying?

try changing the following

Refresh rate / Display Resolution / Color settings (ie Full RGB / 32 bit or something similar)

HTPC / Home automation (home assistant) enthusiast.

Its a Brand new G10 Plasma Full HD.
Have set the resolution to 1920*1080@60Hz 32 bit color.

I appears the resolution to 1920*1080@24Hz 32 bit color RGB could be the winner.

That last setting will do horrible things to any video other then bluray.

Make sure you set the options though the TV tab in the nvidia drivers rather then the normal display settings. It will then show the settings that the TV reports it supports via HDMI rather then what it supports from a PC (then are different).

It will list the options as things like 1080p (60Hz).

There is a long list of resloutions available, 1080p 60Hz causes the issues. will have a better play when I head around again tonight.

i imagine that TV should take 1920x1080 @ 24,50,60 @ Full RGB/Limited RGB no problems
use 24hz for bluray, 50hz for PAL rips/TV, 60hz for NTSC rips
most of the time you would probably want to stick to 50hz as most things you watch will be PAL, and 50hz generally is nicer for webbrowsing than 24hz

Since your using it for an HTPC you should turn off all the fancy processing modes
eg. turn off noise pattern reduction / 3d colour management / etc...

Will spend some time playing with the refresh rates tonight to see what they provide

I note the links are for model TC-P50G10 my friend has the TH-P50G10Z

Not sure what the H and C difference means (so far there is no THX or IPTV support) guessing likliy other than that to be different power and Freeview support differences

ahh sorry i dunno either, but your probably correct with your assumption
there will be setting that tells the TV to use 16-235 or 0-255 on samsung this is called "HDMI Black Level = Low / Normal) ; Low = 0-255

Seems 1920x1080@24Hz is the only 1080p Resolution that doesn't mess with the colours.
@50Hz and @60Hz the colours are all messed up as above.

I have turned off the color settings I could find on the tv, anyone else got any ideas

Nope, that is really strange.

Are the colours messed up when watching movies/pictures or is it just the windows logo?

I assume it has freeview built in, what Hz/Res info does it display when using the internal tuner (Check with TV3 + HD Demo channel), are colours messed up in that setting?

Also try use a different HDMI input.

Also try this -> Some TV's let you 'label' an HDMI input in setup as DVD/PC/Set top box etc... Try changing the HDMI label (This had effect on my TV, when i had it labeled as 'PC' it would keep reseting the aspect ratio, it stoped doing this when i removed the label)

I think the bit rate gets too high for the length/quality cable you are using. Try a short one. DSE branded stuff are good, but it is older and might not support the faster refresh rate.

This appears to be the case, 1080P@50Hz and 60Hz now works fine with a 5m cable.

Should I run at 60Hz or the Native 50Hz?

Wondering if its something to do with 24v18 pins on the DVI plug?

Ideally you should run @ 24,50,60hz depending on the content.
Freeview/Sky TV = 50hz
Bluray = 24hz
PAL = 50hz
NTSC = 60 hz
General PC useage = 50 or 60 hz
