Hi,

Does anyone know where in NZ to get a USB adapter which plugs directly into the internal USB header on the Mother Board? SOmething like http://www.addonics.com/products/io/AD5PUSBA.asp. I am biudling a box and want it to be as cool and quiet as possible so thinking about using a thumb drive instead of a hard drive as all my data lives on a file server.

I have seen this thread http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=34&topicid=19736 but is too old to reply to and is nearly two years old so was wondering if anyone had come across something since

You could always just hack up a spare USB header that comes with a lot motherboards these days, it wouldn't be pretty but it would work and be a cheap alternative.

Alternatively there are plenty of cheap CF -> SATA adapaters on TradeMe, 32GB compact flash drives aren't that expensive these days.

There also use to be some smaller SSD on the market the plugged directly into the IDE port on a motherboard, most around the 4-8gb size. Weren't cheap though, and I can't seem to find them anymore.

Just an update for those who are interested.

I had a talk to the people at http://www.acquire.co.nz who stock Addonics and they say the one that I listed above is new and their supplier should be getting it in December. I will keep you posted on how this goes in case anyone else is looking for a similar thing.
