Hi. Im looking at buying an Oppo BDP83 Bluray player and possibly a Yamaha Z9 reciever off RapalloAV. What are peoples experiences with this company? His site states that all product is NZ new not parallel imported, has anyone had any trouble with Warantee support?

Regards, Allen

I've only bought a couple of HDMI cables from them - for that they were fast, efficient and good value.

EDIT to add:
I did get the impression, just flicking through their website, that once you move away from basics like cables RapalloAV's prices were at the high end of the scale. I see from Oppo Digital's own website that the BDP-83 sells in the US for US$499, which at current exchange rates would be around NZ$700.

Thanks Deev8,

I like that the Oppo can do SACD, DVDA, and the discrete LFE output can be boosted by 10db to work with the discrete inputs on my older V2500 yami reciever. The hardware zone/region mod with full warrantee is probably a good reason to buy locally.

The package with the Z9 & Oppo is $5499 which is the RRP for the Z9 alone, so I thought it was pretty sharp, just a bit dubious about Yamaha warrantee etc. I have asked him and also enquired with Sound Group Holdings to see if he is an authorised dealer for Yamaha. I'll post when they reply.

Regards. Allen.

I've only bought a couple of bits and pieces from Murray but delivery was quick and helpful.

He's also very active on audioenz forums and lots of people over there have bought stuff from him including pretty expensive projectors etc. Have a bit of a scan over there about him.

I'd rate it as excellent. I bought my OPPO off Murray a while back and found his technical knowledge and support first rate - even from afar!. Since then I've bough cable, speakers and HDMI switchers all whcih have performed really well and to expectations. Rappalo are, IMO. like a speciaist shop - you get great support and honest advice - not just the prattle from some spotty nerd working on minimum wage chasing that next commision sale.

I have purchased only HDMI cables and a setup DVD from Rappalo.  I was pleased with the advice, price and quick shipping.  I had an extended coversation with Murray about the Oppo players, upscaling and screen calibration.  I thought I knew a bit about these subjects and found out how much there was to learn from Murray.  His advice seems thoughtful and balanced.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've just had confirmation from Sound Group Holdings that he is an approved Yamaha dealer.

I will be ordering the Oppo DBP83 off him.

Regards, Allen.

Hi Deev8

I just saw your post re the NZ price for the Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player against the USA price.

One thing you need to understand is the USA model is LOCKED to region 1 for DVD's and LOCKED to Zone A for blu-ray discs. That player isnt much use to us in NZ, Australia or UK.

The Oppo BDP-83 BD player that RapalloAV sells is hardware modified for Region Free DVD & Zone Free for Blu-ray discs, this takes time and money to implement hence the difference in price.

RapalloAV also sell the locked version and it sells for $300.00 less!

Glad to.

After getting confirmation from Sound Group Holdings that RapalloAV were authorised Yamaha Dealers I had some confidence that the company was fairly sound, so I ordered the Oppo BDP83 and 3m Pro Gold HDMI Cable. Ordered monday, shipped tuesday, delivered wednesday.

As the tape on the Oppo carton was unbroken, I initially thought that they may have forgotten the HDMI cable and region free mod, but after getting it home and unpacking, its all there! Very nice looking player, nicely presented and the Pro Gold HDMI cable is a work of art! Looks like a very well constructed cable at a very reasonable price.

Unfortunately because of the christmas break, confirmation of dealer status was a few days coming from Sound Group Holdings, and I got cold feet and purchased a Z7 locally at $4500 after some haggling and reference to RapalloAVs sharp pricing of the Z7/BDP83 bundle. I was a bit cautious about ordering from them as they don't have a physical store, however after recieving confirmation from Sound Group Holdings of the Yamaha Dealer status I ordered the Oppo from them. After the prompt processing and delivery I won't hesitate in purchasing from them in future if the price is right or recommending them to others. Good shopping experience so far.

I am trying to sell my old reciever before setting up the new Kit, so it may be a week or so before I get to try out the Oppo, I can't wait!

Regards, Allen.
