Ah I didn't know where to post this so excuse me if it isn't the right place.
I use my PS3 as my main entertainment...ah box and to control my TV/amp/sky I used the Logitech Harmony remote.
Yet I can't use it to control my PS3 as it lacks a IR receiver, so when Logitech brought out the Logitech harmony adaptor for the PS3 I brought one.

That was sometime, mid last year and when Sony updated the firmware on the PS3 it effected the adaptor and caused connectivity problems with the consoles controllers. Looking at the Logitech forums I was able to find the following page which told me how to replace the adaptor.  http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=13885

So In early December I did that, after calling them three times. Each call they had no idea from the previous call of who I was. Anyway I posted out my adapter and waited for a response.... Well the New Year went by and Logitech had 'dismiss' my incident because I hadn't contacted them within 120 hours. I e-mailed them back telling them that I send it weeks ago and then they told me I needed to send a receipt. I e-mailed them the link to that page, as I couldn't find the actual receipt and they said they'll e-mail me when they receive the adpator at their office. Hmmm

So instead of e-mailed them back and waiting another day for their generic responses I just decided to buy a new one. Only thing is that I  couldn't. Everywhere I go these either 'don't exist' or have been on backorder since late November.

So is anyone else having difficulties with their adaptor, or with the Logitech costumer service for that matter? Or I'm I the only one who purchased one? Oh and sorry... I kinda went on a little too much there.

I had thought about getting it but it seems cheaper to just get PS3 Bluetooth remote control... Sorry to hear the experience for you wasn't great which is kinda go against of all the good reputation Logitech has always been. I hold high regards and appreciation to their hardwares though.

As do i, usually. But I was dealing with their separate harmony support team. I think they must be other run with other people suffering from the same issue. Or so I hope.

So you have sent them your adapter and they have basically lost it in their system but claim they haven't got it?

I wouldn't muck about with them. Make it clear that you will file a claim against them in the NZ small claims court. If that doesn't work I would make the claim and no doubt they would sort it then.

Sometimes this is the only recourse in these situations. I threatened the Apple call centre with legal action when they stone-walled me recently and suddenly the mist cleared and the problem got sorted like magic.

Do you think so? I think they'd probably blame me as they requested I add tracking with the package, which I didn’t due to the $60 additional cost!

But seriously you had to use a legal threat with Apple? I don't want to sound bias in any way but when I brought my iPod Touch it was lost or probably stolen in the mail. Apple replaced it and re engraved it no questions asked. And all before Christmas. (it was a gift) I’m guessing you were dealing with something with much greater value then.

I'm not having any problesm with mine and Im on the latest firmware. What exactly is the problem?

I read your link and seems it only affects early production adapters and slim PS3s. I have a fat PS3 and no idea if my adapter is early or late production.

P.S. It may be cheaper to buy the PS3 Bluetooth remote (I think I paid about $80 for the adapter) but thats not really the point is it? The idea is to get rid of all but one remote. Is it worth paying a few bucks more to have all the components control integrated? I'd say yes.

I was an early adopter and like others I had connectivity problems. Like controllers disconnecting, or not pairing with the PlayStation, or the adapter itself would just not work. I have a fat PS3 by the way. Oh and whereabouts did you buy your adaptor?

Sometimes Small Claims (ie legal) is the only thing that get's their attention when you're dealing with an overseas call centre. Often they are just working on procedure which is what happened with Apple. It just needs something to cut through that with some common sense.

You sit down and tell that story to an adjudicator and they'd look incompetent and silly and you'd likely win but it would never get that far.

The odds are tiny that it is lost in the mail, although it may still be going through Logitech's system given that it was December you sent it.

I had thought about it to use it with my Harmony 880 (or another Harmony One for the lounge)... and as @mitchmiteb experienced, I haven't been able to find it from local stores or from DSE's site either...

Hmm can that be trusted though? I've never actually used any sites like that.

They're all NZ stores, some are online only some are both online and actual store. It's a good site to compare computer parts or gadgets that are available in NZ stores.

I got mine at PB Tech I think. Yeah, $85 sounds about right.

I brought an adaptor about five months ago from Mighty Ape and it works flawlessly with our Harmony 785 remote and PS3 fat console, just had to learn a few more extra controls to the 785 and we were away.

+1 I used pricespy to find cheapest price and then checked each recommendation for actual availability.  I am running the latest PS3 firmware and have had no problems.  Once sorted it essentially is hidden and PS3 operates as if it had an IR port.

(realistically if you're going to make a piece of kit a 'media centre' then you'd expect it to have IR compatability and a few rear usb ports in the first place?!!)

But yeah, works fine, (though may have to juggle a few button associations on the remote to make it behave the way you personally would expect it to).  I use mine with PlayTV and have mapped the appropriate commands to the record/pause buttons etc.  Works great.

The computer shops are the place to get these.  Pricespy only searches NZ shops and a price around $90 is about right.  Far cheaper to get the Bluray remote but obviously you're only after the IR adaptor if you're trying to integrate into just the one universal harmony remote.

I called Logitech's Harmony support last night and I hate to say it but Logitech may have lost their reputation as a company with good customer support. When I finally got through to somebody I could barely understand him, and he could barely understand me. I kid you not it took ten minutes for him to understand what my username was. I was on the edge of hanging up until after about the fifth time I spelt it out he found it on their user base. Ten minutes! And it wasn't even necessary I was just checking the status of my incident as Logitech have stopped responding to my e-mails. All he told me was that somebody would call me back in 2-3 working days and then he got cut off... mid sentence.

Of course nobody will call me back, I'd put money on it. I'm beginning to think that I should just buy another one. Still $120 is quite a lot of money to just throw away.  And after this experience I would never want to give Logitech my money again. Seriously Logitech have never been this bad with their customers before, have they?
