Hi all

I bought a brand new Yamaha RXV1900 from a shop last week, only got time to setup my speaker, receiver and cd player on saturday, after the music has been going on for about 40 minutes, my receiver turned itself off!!

I tried to turn it back on by press the main on/off button, but there is a hiss/sparks inside the receiver.

I have used a surge protector, why's this?

I have returned the unit to the shop and upgraded to a RXV3900. I am yet to open and set it up, I dont want to plug it in just in case there is something I am doing wrong...

Can someone please help/comment??

PS. one of my speaker cable's banaba plug seem to be a bit loose.

I would say it was just a faulty unit,

It happens sometimes.

I'm not sure if receivers have these but make sure the switch at the back (If there is one) is set to 240v not 115v

Thanks Bobby55. I think I am going to read the user manual from 1st paragraph to the last to make sure I have not done anything wrong, this is not my first receiver, have owned an AX5i previously, but didnt have this problem...

bad luck - something shorted inside. just make sure when you connect you dont leave ends/frills of speaker cables touching other ends - that could fry the amp.

Yeah, sounds like it's fried itself. Look for a fuse at the back, or the old-school 240/120v switch, although I doubt it will have one seeing as my V861 (older than yours) doesn't.

there is no switch on the 1900 and 3900, just stating its 240v.

the 3900 has been running sweet.

think its just bad luck.
