Installed the Windows 7 Media Center cumulative update today from Windows Update, and had my first Windows 7 unsolicited reboot ever...

This was while watching TV3 (DVB-T, H.264, 1080i HD). Nothing else changed. Anyone seen anything similar?

Bugger. Another reboot in less than five minutes. Uninstalled the update now, will check event log after the program.

hmm. My machine downloaded the update last night. Will be watching freeview and playing some mkv's on the xbox 360 in few minutes. Will report my findings later tonight or tomorrow. I've never experience random reboots as you are now getting with the new update.

I leave my media center running 24x7.
I got the 3:15am wake up early this morning as windows plays it's opening scene.
seems that's the time windows wants to reboot, and it's a pain when i have the volume left turned up.

rvangelder, notice that I am talking about spontaneous reboots during watching TV (DVB-T), not the "Windows Update reboots".

It happened four times in twenty minutes now. We switched to TV2, so let's see how it goes on a lower resolution channel.

Sounds like it is time to turn off automatic recovery and see what the offending process/software is...

Interesting... Of course when you decide to observe an event, it won't happen. Or perhaps the current program on TV3 is not HD (Nightline News).

But I have reset the HDHomeRun, rescanned the channel using the config tool, rescanned the channels on Windows Media Center, turned off automatic restart on faults, and turned off the Media Center background channel scanner.

So far it's been some time without the reboot.

Am having media center close soon after running, immediate if I minimize it sometimes now, was fine last week. No reboots or anything, just the dialog about media center having a problem and needing to close.

Was an unplanned restart today, I had not used it since some stuff installed earlier in the week.

Have it on c4 now and its behaving, minimized, restored a few times,

Hmm, just closed it and it killed aero, will play a little more

No idea how much acceleration is happening, the card is a quadro fx550 and ehshell is taking about 40% CPU on a cheap core i5.

Oh, that's weird. Is that anything like an invisible bsod? If that is the case, what's in the event log?

Last night I rescanned the channels with the HDHomeRun tool, then rescanned the channels from within Media Center. I left TV 3 playing for about 24 hours and had no spontaneous reboots in that period.

Strange...

Will keep monitoring.
