Ok people we've been waiting far too long for iTunes to sell tv shows in the iTunes New Zealand store.  Lets get things rolling. We can email american networks and ask them to make their tv shows available for sale in the iTunes New Zealand store.

Do any other countries outside the United States have access to TV shows via iTunes? If not then I think we'll be waiting a long time.

Kyanar: Australia does.

But very limited to what the Ozz networks have shown which in  most cases is way ahead of their NZ counterparts.

UK does, and if you know someone in the UK you can use UK iTunes vouchers and download their tv.

Im only guessing here....

I assume itunes would have to pay royalties to broadcast the TV shows in NZ. They obviously want a decent return on investment, and with our smaller population base they would need to charge more to get the returns they want/need.
Would they pay royalties based on the content purchased, or the number of times its been downloaded? This could also affect how much it would cost for both Apple and the end user per TV shows episode.

Also, they would need a large amount of HD content, as most people would not be happy watching SD TV shows on their PCs/laptops.

Based on the US prices (I have a US iTunes Store account) of $3 USD per episode, they'd be charging $5 or $6 NZD each here, and $4 or $5 for the non-HD versions.  $80 to $100 for season pass ($40 to $50 USD).

Don't think you'll have many takers at that price.

I doubt they will care if we email them. While I haven't tried it myself, I understand from one of the IT guys at work (who apparently has) that if you care about it that much it's quite a minimal cost to get an account on a US proxy server. Then, as far as iTunes is concerned, you are in the US and they sell to you quite happily.

The key for getting a US iTunes account is the means of payment. In my experience the IP address doesn't matter ;) You usually need a credit card that is registered to a US address, but it is possible to buy US store vouchers on eBay...

Its easy to setup a USA account but you need to buy USA gift cards.

Ebay is a little expensive that and Paypal banned my card. You can buy the cards using a NZ Visa on the USA store and had it sent to a mate in USA.

Have downloaded 24 in HD and Stargate Universe in HD

I gave up pirating content once it was available locally for a reasonable price, such as iTunes for Music, SkyTV HDi, and TVNZ/TV3 Ondemand (the best price of all and NO ADS :) and Youtube.

At the prices people are saying you would pay for iTunes TV episodes I wouldn't be purchasing, as you usually watch TV episodes once or twice, and at around $6/Hour it's a bit steep.

Having said that, there are the occasional things I would purchase if I couldn't source elsewhere, such as scifi, but I've found youtube now has some amazing full length HD television shows produced just for that format.

I'm glad HD is coming to sky discovery :-)

Tyler - Parnell Geek - iPhone 3G - Lenovo X301 - Kaseya - Great Western Steak House, these are some of my favourite things.

The other way (perhaps not so easy) is to open the account with a US credit card and billing address. I have done this but I rarely purchase from iTunes. But the account is useful when my daughter's US friends (or in fact my friends) send her US iTunes vouchers which she can't redeem on the local store.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

How might one legally obtain and use a credit card registered to a US address when one resides in NZ?

I really wish we weren't forced to jump through these hoops to get content that we are willing to pay for. It is no wonder that piracy is so rampant!

One method is to sign up for a mail forwarding service in the US, which has a physical address, then you contact your bank who issued the credit card and have that address added as a secondary billing/mailing address.

Either way it involves spending a bit of money so probably depends on how bad you want to download stuff from the US iTunes store.

i would love tv shows on itunes. but there are other things i would love on itunes.

- being able to buy hd movies (i hate it that i can only rent hd movies on my apple tv, i want to buy some too)
- movies extra. cant believe you cant get this here. i would buy a movie just to try this out (and im sure other would as well).

but yeah i think the cost per episode would be the killer.  movies on itunes are quite expensive.  u can often find the dvd movie cheaper at the warehouse etc.
so if they were going to charge $60-$100 per season, i just wounldnt be interested.

but if they charged like $20 a season for classic tv, macgyver, seinfeld, i would diffentily buy quite a few of them.

and can you imagine all those past episode of shortland street on itunes !!! just kidding.
