Up until now my Dell Zino HD was performing well, except for the occasional "squares" on the screen when playing Freeview|HD content...

This being an ATI Mobility Radeon means that we have to rely on Dell updating the video drivers to a new version - which is something I don't see happening that frequently. After talking to Dell Australia and to AMD Australia I tried lots of different things, with no success.

However, last month AMD announced from March 2010 they will release ATI Mobility Radeon drivers directly to consumers, bypassing the OEM - great stuff.

I've downloaded and installed the first beta release today and I have to say after hours watching TV3 and other HD content I am still waiting to see this happening again. It seems all is working really well now, brilliant picture.

At last...

That's good news I always found it bizzare that ATI (and Nvidia too) sold gpu's to oem's for mobile products but then left driver support/customization upto the oem based off the ATI (or Nvidia) reference driver.

It's much better the reference driver just works for everything and is updated often by ATI (or Nvidia).

It's worth noting Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic are not taking part in the Catalyst Mobility programme, so you can strike those manufacturers off your short list when considering a netbook/notebook.

Catalyst 10.3 was officially released yesterday.

A few people have reported issues with 480p DXVA playback in the official 10.2 and 10.3 catalyst versions (the latest two releases) though so your mileage may vary.  At least you know you can update to a newer version when they fix it now (unless you have a Sony, Toshiba or Panasonic product using an ATI video chip!).

So from my understanding, I have a supported GPU, does that mean I can download the Catalyst 10.3 Software Suite for my HP DV6, run and install that, and that will replace the currently installed Catalyst Control Center I have at the moment, which is customized for my HP?
