I was going to start a thread regarding my first HTPC build but not going to do so till I get sky working first on a test PC

I am using the Jaycar reader and with NDS cam 0.0.0.5 can get the channels decoding but with the dreadful 10 sec hick up so I know it can be done is there anyone who has over come this ( 17xxx card )

If I try newCS I can get the historical ATR part working  ( 40 b0 09 4a 50 01 4e 5a ) which I get from several different cards so is nothing  in that part relating to card number etc this I will get with either the 4k7 or diode mod with the card fully inserted or with the card detect switch off
I also get the guard time wwt numbers etc which I believe pertain to the first block of the ATR ( 3f 78 13 25 04 ) which again is the same  on several sky cards ( all 17xxx tested ) however NewCS tries to init the card several times with slightly different settings and each time tries to init card with CAID 0900 should this not be 0969 ?

I am going to be trying a different approach in the fact I have ordered a 3.68 Mhz xtal and a 4.43 Mhz xtal and will remove the 6 Mhz xtal from the jaycar and put in header pins so I can swap different xtals my theory behind this is looking into the sky decoder there are only a few components that deal with the sky card the first is a TDA8004 which is the card reader as such then there are two HY57V161619D chips and from my understanding these  are memory chips which I am assuming store some sort of decoding keys so the card itself is not queried for every key change thus making the decoding on a sky decoder faster but not sure on this but looking at the TDA8004 specs it seems to initialize the card at 3.68 Mhz being the rason I have ordersd that xtal the higher on being I may be able to over cloak the card and get it running faster

The third I tried was acamd but it also had some issues with the card inserted it would report card not in socket and if I removed it slightly I would the get an ATR but it would only happen once and not communicate any more this again was tried with the 4k7 resistor and the diode mod

I have tried many different settings in the config files of all the cams / card servers but with no luck.

I am now going to try search for some under OSx (snow leopard) to see if that helps otherwise my xtals should arrive Monday to try

Has anyone else here been able to rid the 10 sec glitch on the 17xxx cards or got some other method to get them working?

I don't believe anybody ever got results with a 17xx card, I think most people just moved to 45xx cards to solve their issues.

You have now lost your 17XX card, somehow your neighbors friends dog ate it and now you require a replacement card from sky which is coincidentally a 45XX card.
Problem solved? :P

Funny!  A very similar thing happened to me.  Had some friends around who had kids.  One of them took my NZ17XX card out of the decoder and we could not find it.  Sky installer turned up the next day and replaced it with a NZ45XX card.  Sky rightly charged me $29.95 for the service and said if I ever found the old card I could return it for a full refund.

I just happened to find the card seconds after the installer left my place.  Amazing!

well believe it or not when sky originally set up the second decoder in the house it had a 45 card in it ( same box as land lord upstairs ) as I moved into a new flat however I also had a 2.4 Ghz cordless phone which interfered with channels on the 12707 transponder when they came out I saw the other decoder they brought in and it had to have the 17 card for it as both decoders needed swapping out sky charged $40 I tried to convince them I was happy not getting those few channels Prime TV2 comedy MTV and a couple of box office I did not work I was gutted
However on Saturday both decoders have now lost all signal totally ( dish hasn't moved as no wind ) I am suspecting a new LNB hopefully 4 outputs will enquire about HDI box as a second decoder to see if it is still $12 month more - gaurantee a 45 card but then whats the oit in HTPC apart from streaming to my laptop in another room?

Edit : in all reality sky should not of charged as the first tech to install the second decoder should of seen me using y cordless phone and given me a 2.4 Ghz safe decoder yes they say there are decoders incompatible with 1.8 or 2.4 Ghz phones

Here, borrow some .'s and ,'s from me.  Might make your post a little more readable.
