I'm looking at getting one of these for my htpc but was wondering even though it can happily play 1080 content, how does it handle downscaling 1080 content to 780p? (I haven't got a high def tv just yet).

I'm assuming it'd take some additional processing power to downscale content and given that the gpu is based on the nvidia 9400's it shouldn't be a problem. Of course I don't want to shell out $700+ for something that's going to stutter!

Have any of you guys had experience with these or any of the N330/ION nettops?

What content are you planning on playing on it? Blu-ray rips (iso's)? mkv's, xvids? etc etc. Different file types require different amounts of horsepower. However downscaling doesn't really add any extra load on the cpu than it already has playing the native 1080p.

p.s. its 720p :)

You should be fine. Although mkv is a format it is merely a container, inside the mkv could be a multitude of different formats of video and audio. You could run into a few problems depending on whats inside but for the most part you should be fine. What your really after is dxva mkv's which get offloaded to the gpu for processing instead of the cpu (you need a dxva player, such as media player home cinema to achieve this)
