I actually hadn't checked this in weeks. Checked some hours ago and thought 'hmmmmm they are still developing it?'. Guess my timing was a bit off.

Sweet as!

I was looking forward to this release as I believed that it was supposed remove a hack to that was meant to stop some rare flicker problem in some ATI cards but ended up causing horrible motion blur with 1080i (eg TV3) using nVidia due to it not de-interlacing.

I discovered this issue after going from 1.0.0 to 1.1.0 RC1 and read somewhere that it was probably my 8500GT not powerful enough anymore as the MP renderer requirements went up a bit. So I got a new 9800GT Green. And still had the problem.

So more searching of the MP forums last week I read a recommendation that for those with problems to wait for RC2 for a fix. Hasn't worked for me :(

Maybe my issue is something completely different... anyone else on with an nVidia card using 1.1.0 RC2 and is getting hardware accelerated TV3 without any motion blurring? I'm using the PowerDVD codec and Win7 64x. I've tried every combination of de-interlacing options. TV3 recordings with fast motion in MP looks blurry (ghosting effect), while the same recording played directly in PowerDVD app looks fine.

I'm tempted to go back to MP 1.0 if I can't get it sorted, though I do really like the subtle improvements that 1.1 has to offer.

Im using RC2 with a Geforce card,  no problems for me on TV3.. No problems with it crashing for me yet either - but I am running WinXP on that comp.. I'll load it on my main comp now and test it for you (Win7 x64) - providing it'll find my TV server :)

Thanks, yeah WinXP and Win7 is likely to be quite different as the EVR renderer is used. If you get it running fine, please let me know what codec and settings you used in MP config and also like if you chose "Inverse telecine" in the nVidia control panel, and the version of the nVidia driver and whether you have Aero turned on, etc.

Tonight I got home and discovered that my scheduled recordings did not run, and they do not show in red on the EPG, yet they are still scheduled. I even set a programme to manually record and then went to watch it and it was nowhere to be found! Also I found that randomly MP would become unresponsive for a while, and lock up then eventually come around and run all the frustrated remote presses. RC1 was actually pretty rock solid for me.

I did an upgrade rather than a fresh install with RC2. I noticed that when it prompted me for an SQL password, I put in MediaPortal like usual and it rejected it. I then chose the MySQL option (rather than the MS one) and the password worked... I think the change of servers might possibly be responsible for the scheduling problems. Might have to do a fresh install... groan...

I guess if I hear that another NZer has it running perfectly with similar OS, software and hardware then I'll have the motivation to work the problems out. If not, then I'll just go back to Vista and MP 1.0.0.

I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of RC2 and the problems seem (with a quick play)to all be fixed including my deinterlacing issue. :)

I see that today on the MP site that some people have had problems upgrading, so they strongly recommend that you do a fresh install.

Yeah, just what I've been trying to do for over an hour. seems the sourceforge.net site is over-utilised. Keep getting: try again. Bugger.

Has anyone had any success with RC2 ?

I broke the golden rule of 'if it aint broke dont fix it' recently going from a working 1.0.2 install to RC2. The reason for the change was I got some VC-1 HD content which I couldnt get to play with my 1.0.2 install (Im using CoreAVC, just because I always have) and initial reading of the SAF4.0 codec pack thread gave me the impression it would sort it out for me.

Unfortunately Ive had nothing but trouble and Im now in codec hell not being able to get back to a system capable of just playing all the basics (tv and movies I mean). I got caught up in the initial 'upgrade' issues, so used the 'clean uninstall' option which told me it would remove everything but Im not convinced.

After spending several hours trying to get it working, and many more reading thread after thread Ive gone back to a 1.0.2 install (again after a clean uninstall) to find all my settings are still there ! Ive tried various methods of removing codecs but as with the MP un-install Im not convinced Ive removed all of them each time.

Anyway, before I give in completely and buy W7 to use 7MC (which just works according to the threads Ive found), can someone at least say they have it all going with no problems to convince me it is possible. So thats all our tv content and movies in all sorts of formats etc.

Im thinking of trying again with a new drive having a fresh install of XP SP3 on it and starting from scratch. From what Ive read I should be able to get everything going with the following....RC2, the latest StreamedMP skin, Moving Pictures and TV Series plugins, PDVD9 from HDPACK2.3 and SAF5.0, so if someone can confirm that at least I would be grateful :)

Ill post this on the NZ thread aswell I think, but seeing as its several hundred pages long now, Im not sure how many people pay it any attention any more.

Cheers

No problems with mine, I was previously running RC1 without a problem too and 1.0.* before that, with clean installs for each upgrade. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, ATI with the latest Catalyst drivers and the PowerDVD codecs. I've found for video file playback (all of my DVD & BluRay rips are MKV - h264 & AAC/AC3 passthrough) the Shark007 codec packs have been the way to go along with PDVD9 for the h264 files and DVB-T playback.

I was previously running the StreamedMP skin on RC2 but have now switched to Maya, both work fine (and the new features in MovingPictures thanks to 1.1 are great!)

I cannot recommend strongly enough to do your OWN manual uninstall of both MPTVServer & Mediaportal frontend, rather than let the MPI do it for you.

I went down the fresh install path with the latter method, & had issues.

So I reGhosted & installed RC2 after first uninstalling manually & it went fine. I now will always follow this rule:

"Do it yourself; don't trust others to do it right".
