For various reasons, I skip between Media Center, GB-PVR and DVB-Viewer. (the point of this thread isn't to debate the reasons) I have a dual DVB-S tuner card.

Does the tuner get locked system wide or just within the software?

For example if i'm recording something with GB-PVR, then I fire up DVB-Viewer, will the software be smart enough to realise that GB-PVR is using one of the tuners, and go to the second one? Or will it try and grab the tuner already in use because it knows no better.

I'm using Windows 7 if that makes any difference.

Good question; I've always wondered this myself. I know on my XP machine that ProgDVB can detect (at startup) when MediaPortal is using my tuners - the tuner is made unavailable in ProgDVB for that "session". The reverse is not true though. If I try to start timeshifting in MediaPortal while watching a channel in ProgDVB then the ProgDVB channel gets stopped and MediaPortal fails to start timeshifting.

[Edit: my setup is XP SP3, MediaPortal 1.0.2 and ProgDVB 6.33]

Without testing it. I doubt it would be smart enough (unless the author himself has come across this situation) but it should at least crash since it can't get access to the tuners. And in doing so leave GBPVR uninterupted.
