I trust this is the best forum for my query.

I live in a country village where the local National Radio FM signal is difficult to receive on small radios in and around the house.  I am considering using my spare satellite receiver to access a quality National Radio signal and then retransmitting it using an fm transmitter such as this Hlly: http://www.hllycable.com/transmitter/fm-transmitter/hlly-1w-tx-01s-power-adjustable-fm-transmitter-for-home-silver.html

I would be most interested in comments regarding this.  Is this an OK transmitter for my task ( I know I'll need to power it down to keep within the regs). Can anyone see any technical issues in my plan.  Does anyone local stock the Hlly or something similar.

You can't really re-transmit their programme (even if you only intend it to be around your home) without gaining permission.  You'd have to seriously limit the transmitters output to ensure your neighbours cannot recieve it.  Plus take into consideration you'd need to pay APRA/PPNZ licencing fees should the transmission be able to be recieved outside of your property.

As I understand it, the ability to change both RF output power and frequency via external buttons/switches isn't allowed under the RSM guidelines.

If you're handy with a soldering iron you could get ones of these kits:

Or you could try one of those ipod style FM transmitters.

wow those are quite cheap, and much more effective than my useless Belkin Tunecast.

The current one I have can barely do 5m!!

The 1watt one by Hlly?

You simply can't just fire up a transmitter like that and broadcast what you like for all and sundry to hear.

Read my posts above.

Thanks for taking time to respond ZollyMonsta. The KC341 looks as though it will be worth a try and hopefully better than a Belkin one intended for an MP3 player. Part of my reason for resorting to the forum was my concern that the Hlly may be an overkill.

You need a PLL locked TX to be legally allowed to broadcast on the guardband freq's.

MED are currently looking to up the limit from 500mw to 1watt the info is here

http://www.rsm.govt.nz/cms/policy-and-planning/current-projects/broadcasting/lpfm-gul-consultation-2...

Suggest making a call to RNZ i'm sure they will be happy to offer you some advise in setting yourself up to re-broadcast their signal.

Do you have a half decent broadband connection?
Streaming on-line radio through out the house could work for you?

Thanks Dunnersfella but sourcing the signal (via freeview) is not the problem and if I streamed WiFi I would need to use specialised receivers - using an FM signal means I can use any radio ie bedside radios etc. Constant, all day streaming broadband may tax my monthly cap (40gig) as well.
