Hi there.
Our Philip's LCD TV has been having problems for a while were all video going through the AV ports are extremely bright if not completely white. We only use those ports for our ancient DVD player and when we need to watch our weekly movie we have to drag the Xbox 360 out of the other room and use that since it goes through the composite HD plugs which work just fine, and if we cant use the xbox for what ever reason my laptop gets used over VGA which also has no problems so just the AV plugs. Anyways, what I'm asking of you guys, what reasonably priced DVD players are there with composite HD input or HDMI? It HAS to be Philips though, Mum wants it to match the TV, Stereo and the vintage VCR (I swear I have no idea how this thing still works to be honest but it sits next to the tv for what ever reason (also wont work due to the AV issue)). It doesn't have to be a DVD player only, it can be a blueray, but still reasonably priced and be able to play DVD's.

Thanks heaps,
Sam.

p.s. What could be causing the TV to act this way btw?

Have a look at the Dick Smith Phillips blu ray player. Not sure you much you have to spend. Make sure that you can make the DVD player option multi zone - you should be able to.......

Composite isn't capable of carrying HD signal, maybe you are talking about component??

Pretty sure Philips are no longer bringing in TV's so perhaps think more about what the dvd player will match for future purchases

Yeh I know Philips dont make TV's anymore which is a shame because the last one we had lasted about 12years+

We went to JB-HIFI today too and looked at the dvd players, there was a Toshiba one for about $70 I think that had HDMI but the sales person said it doesnt have an HDMI plug with it so we're waiting till next pay-day and prob get one then. Are Toshiba's any good? We couldnt find any Philip's one's there so Mum said it doesn't really matter what brand now so long as it has a warranty, looks nice and works.

I would make sure it has HDMI - even if you don't use it right away the upscaling feature is good to have - more future proofed than those without it.

BTW HDMI cables are about $14 at Ascent - don't overpay for them if you do go in this direction....

Yeh what does the upscaling feature mean? Most of the players had that written on the box.

It should mean that it will deliver a better quality picture over HDMI to the TV - not as good as Blu Ray but better than a normal DVD picture.
