Hi.

I use Windows 7 Media Center, and the MediaBrowser add-in sometimes freezes on me, locking the system up.
I really wanted a way to crash out of Media Center, then load it up without leaving the couch.

I found a way to map the remote control's red button to Alt-F4.
It was a post on thegreenbutton: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/p/87783/444015.aspx#444015
I wanted to share with you all.

Open the registry editor (regedit)
Browse to SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da\ReportMappingTable
In view/edit RemoteMappingTable, you should see a long string of hexadecimal characters on the right. You'll want to add the following to the END of the value:
5B 00 00 00 04 04 3D
The above will map the red button on the remote to alt-f4

So now, if it freezes, I just hit the red button, which exits to Windows, then I hit the big green button to get back to Media Center.

Handy.

I had Mediabrowser like to stop working on me randomly too. I 'fixed' it by using the harmony remote i have and setting the red button to revert back to the 'base' Media Center menu when it opens. The keystroke is Windows Key+Alt+Enter. It just exits mediabrowser and then heads back to the main screen for me to attempt to re-open it.
