I placed an order for a Samsung 3D Plasma TV today at Noel Leeming (20% off all Samsung, great stuff!!) and when I asked him if the TV came with the free Starter Pack of two 3D glasses and a movie he said yes. Then shortly after he said if they happened to be out of the glasses when I got my TV they'd arrange something for me, then at the end he said it turns out the pack doesn't come free with their Plasma TV's.

So I bought the glasses ($160), which I see is just one pair, hmm.

Anyways, I looked back on Samsung's website now and even on the product page for the actual TV model I ordered, it says "
3D BONUS Pack
3D BONUS Pack

Purchase any Samsung 3D^ TV and receive a BONUS 3D Pack.
Pack includes:
2x battery charges 3D Adult Glasses
1x Monsters vs Aliens 3D Blu-Ray title*.

Starting April 2010. While Stocks Last."

--------

I think I should talk to them again tomorrow and check on this. I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with the Starter Pack and a Samsung Plasma? I can't find anywhere what the ^ after Samsung 3D relates to.

...as you quoted above, "starting april 2010, while stocks last".

If they still have bonus packs left, they should give you one. I suggest you ring the branch (anonymously) and ask them if they are still handing them out - for either lcd -or- plasma. If the answer is no, try ringing samsung. If the answer was yes, make them hand a pack over and make them take back the pair you bought.

True, although the 3D TV's just came into stock anywhere a few weeks ago so I'd hope they'd still have stock.

Will do, thanks :)

Ah that's very good to know! I was gonna call Harvey Norman too and ask that.

I called them in the weekend to see if they'd price match (I'd prefer to buy there since I got my last TV from there and they gave me good service) but they said not while the other stores don't have stock.

How are you liking the plasma? Noel's didn't have one on display but they had the 55" LED and the 3D seemed quite good. I'd heard about cross talk and such but I gotta admit I didn't see any myself.

They had the 58" there, as i'm getting the 63", it looked pretty good to me....ok, not as black as the panny, but bigger is better in my books!

I went back to the store today (after checking with Bond & Bond that they were giving away the pack with their plasmas etc) and was served by the assistant manager who right away without me having to mention I checked with other stores that it should come with the pack. He assured me it will and wrote a note on my receipt with his name in case I should ever have any trouble claiming it.

It certainly pays to talk to the higher ups :)

link2007: Yeah the pannys do have better blacks, but only to start with. As the TV is used, over time the black level is slowly reduced. Panasonic claim it's a feature and there's no way to disable it.

Yes i know about Panasonic's black level problem, especially with the V10, Z1, and other 2009 models, and yes even with their 2010 plasmas too. (albeit they say they've changed the voltage, so it's a more gradual change.) And they're being sued for it.

however even if the Panny 2010 Plasmas double their blacks, it is still superior to the Samsung Plasmas of 2010.

I too got the 50" 3D Plasma from Noel Leemings over Queens Birthday and they supplied the free glasses right there and then. Although I checked this before handing over the money.

I've been extremely impressed with the picture quality of the Samsung, 2D picture is amazing. (although anything is better than the 32" transonic I was using) Now just have to wait until I can afford a PS3 and wait some more for the 3D firmware upgrade to be able to use the glasses.

I've downloaded some 3D trailers and random 3D content onto USB which looks pretty cool. Not super impressed with the 2D-3D conversion though.

The PVR function is very helpful, but DRM rights restrict you to only be able to play the recorded file on the TV. Would have been good if they included a twin tuner so you could record 1 while watching another.

oh don't forget to upgrade to latest firmware version.
