Hi People

As I do from time to time, I will install MediaPortal and see what advantages and disadvantages it has over WMC.

One problem that I am currently having, which is driving me up the wall, is I cannot get all the functions on my Microsoft MCE remote to work. Previously, this has worked right out of the box, however for some reason it just isn't working.

I have installed MediaPortal 1.1.0 RC4 on my Windows 7 x64 HTPC. I use the Microsoft RC6 remote (the one in the middle of the picture of the remote config screen), and I use the IR receiver on my Antec Fusion V2 case. This calls for iMon to be running in the background for this to work.

The remote works, except it is very limited with what I can do. I'm able to navagate with the arrow keys, but keys like "back" and "more info" don't seem to work, as don't the volume, record, pause etc.

Has someone had any first-hand experience with this? I've read so many threads but nothing seems to match my situation.

Sorry to ask some simplistic questions but;

Do all the functons work in WMC?

Have you stopped the WMC service from operating (under 3rd party checks in MP Config)?

And at the same time selected MPTray to open?

Yes, Win 7 Media Center works perfectly.

With regard to stopping the WMC services - no, this is something that I haven't done. In fact you are the first to have mentioned this!

I have stopped the services from starting and have done a re-boot. However it seems that things are just the same. MP starts automatically and I can arrow up and down etc. and select. When I try to go back with the back button nothing happens. Also, when I am watching TV the channel buttons dont work etc.

Any other suggestions?

since your using a different IR sensor + middleware software for it, i dont think its really a "MCE Remote" is in the standard sense, so it makes sense it would not work correctly using the MCE remote option in MP

im sure if you plugged in the microsoft receiver and disabled the software it would work fine

You should just try binding the keys/buttons as if it was a more generic remote..

Hmmmm... I see what you are saying regarding the iMon software, or middleware as you put it. I'll plug in the standard MS receiver and report back my findings.

Just as an aside, does MediaPortal have some sort of IR plug-in that might replicate the iMon software?

Well, I feel silly as I didn't think to try the MS receiver, but I am pleased to report that it seems to be working a treat.

Actually, I also have to say that the Microsoft receiver works a whole lot better than the IR receiver on the front of my Antec Fusion V2 case. This was the source of much frustration for my wife who could not seem to get the thing pointed in the right direction!

I have to say that now I have solved this problem, I'm thinking I might stay with MediaPortal for good this time.

I think there have been a few issues with the Antec v2 IR. It seems in a lot of cases the IR receiver is recessed too far back in the case, blocking its full range of receivership. I am using a silverstone case with a similiar IR receiver (iMon) and have no such issues.

There are a number of ways to correct the issues you're seeing with iMon and Mediaportal.
You could program iMon itself with keypresses based on remote buttons, or you change settings in Mediaportal in regards to which button activates ceratin activites.
For those not wishing the extra trouble, the simplest option is the one you have taken (get a MCE receiver).

The option I took is to program keypresses into Imon. You can also do that with other programs (TMT3 for instance) so the same remote controls all the activites for that application as well.
