Hi all,

We've just bought a new place which is unlikely to receive DVB-T Freeview. It's a bit out of Dunedin, and I don't think it will have any signal.

My HTPC has been running happily using DVB-T for the last few years (here and in the UK). But, I guess I'll need to go DVB-S.

So, I've had a bit of a read - ideally I'd like a DVB-S plus Analogue plus FM, but a DVB-S card by itself would be OK.

The WinTV Nova-S Plus card seems to be a popular choice, but I've found a good deal on a Nova-S 541?

Anyone know about the difference? Would that card be suitable in NZ?

Cheers,
Danny

Hi again,

Yeah, I think it is an older 'legacy' board.  I found a reference to a Nova-T/S (legacy) on the Hauppauge website http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/support/support_all.html?prod=62

I found it on Ebay UK - incl delivery to NZ = £34

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Hauppauge-WinTV-Nova-S-541-PCI-Satellite-Receiver-/110547401953?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item19bd237ce1

Specs from the Ebay site:
Brand: NEW Hauppauge
Model Number: WinTV Nova-S 541
Item: PCI Satellite Receiver
Boxed: Yes
Functions & Features:
Digital Video Format: MPEG-2, DVB
Video Capture Resolution: 768 x 576
Data Transfer Rate: 60 MBps
Single satellite antenna - TV aerial - F connector
Electrical Ratings: None
Cabling Included: None
Accessories Included: Driver CD (includes PowerDVD), quick start guide (in german only)

What do you think?  OK for NZ DVB-S??!

Cheers,
Danny

freeview is only broadcasting MPEG-2 so its probably fine.

PBTech has the nova-s-plus for 95+gst - few extra $$ but you'd have a valid warranty, its in stock, and its definately compatible..
