I am having issues with my music library under MCE 7. I go in and add my folders and it goes through and updates the library and all is good, then a few days later you go to bring it up and it has issues freezing up or going slow trying to display all the albums.

So I go through, remove the folders and add them back in and it is all happy again, then a few days later it packs a wobbly again .....

At a guess there is 25k +/- files in the library all in individual album folders.

Does anybody else experience this?

I am relatively new to Win7 myself but is it something to do with the 'folder indexing' that W7 goes through every time you open a folder? The function can be turned off.

Look for a program called "Music Browser". Its an MCE plugin that uses the folder structure and file names rather than the tags on your mp3s. Works much better for large libraries than the native one

Of course it means you need your folders and files named properly, not just your tags...

I'll post a link later when Im home

I have about 6,000 files in my music folder and haven't had any problems.

Are these folders local or on shared folder on another PC?

Have you installed all Windows 7 updates - including one last week that is specific for Windows 7 Media Center and contains some cumulative updates?

Is there anything else running on your PC at the time?

What kind of HDD is this?

I have quite a few albums. The system works quite well, I think.

I had similar problems as you in my early implementation. I removed all of my music, and used mp3tag to properly tag all my music, add album art, and put them all back. works great now, with a few minor performance issues:

1. If there is music "now playing" then the system performs sluggish (mp3 keeps playing without any stutters).
2. If I add a new album, then media center cpu kicks up a step analysing for album art / tags, etc. This is temporary and usually lasts only a minute or two.

Cheers
