Hi,

About a year ago, when I was in Hamilton, I setup Windows Media Center to recieve the freeview HD signal, ever since, I have had a media center icon in my taskbar.  I left hamilton months and months ago, and can't get the signal anymore, so i just don't use WMC anymore..

That little icon is bugging me lol, it keeps saying its updating a 'log'.  i think it has something to do with the EPG?

How do I get rid of it? i don't want it starting up when windows starts

Not sure exactly, you could try Start/Run/msconfig and see if there is a reference to it in the Start up tab, if so un-tick it.

Open the run dialogue box and type services hit OK and the services control panel will open. Set the services that start "Windows Media Centre" to manual.
That should stop the services from running after a reboot.

I tried that 'run' - 'services' suggestion, but nothing pops up after I 'ok' on the run box.

Just open Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services then...

sorry my bad. I was using the search box under the start menu in 7 which of course searches.. as stated go though control panel or use services.msc

Thanks. I set all four of the Windows Media Center options to Manual, but it still came up on startup. Confusing eh? I think I might just have to live with it ;)

If you go into services again are any of the MC services running?

Cannot check the media center at the moment (family watching TV) but I think there will have been a service called "Windows Media Center Service Launcher" change that to disabled and see if that stops the others starting.

I assume you're running Windows 7? Just to to add/remove programs and remove Media Centre... Problem solved.
