Hi all

I have just bought a new theatre and tv system, and when I play dvds through the samsung theatre system, the rear speakers work fine, and when gaming on the brand new PS3. When I play a movie through the ps3 (blue ray or normal dvd), the rear speaks do not work.

I have the ps3 running an HDMI cable to the TV, then an optical cord from the tv to the theatre, and there doesnt seem to be a logical reason why the speakers work when gaming, but not when watching dvds.

any help appreciated.

You need to check in the PS3 settings under audio output types.  It's the best place to start that I can think of.

Also bring up the info display when you are playing the DVD and it will tell you what audio type the PS3 thinks it's sending out at the time.

Make sure that the 'optical' setting is ticked under the audio settings.

The TV may not be sending the 5.1 signal to the home theatre.
Connect the optical from the PS3 to the home theatre and the HDMI straight to the TV.

Also make sure that the 'HDMI' setting is ticked in the display settings and the 'optical' setting is ticked in the audio settings of the PS3.

This will most likely fix the problem you are having.

+1, sorry, should have spotted this earlier.
