I've been trying to get the best Audio Sync with the following Setup
 * Samsung LA40C650 screen
 * Samsung BD-C5500 Blu Ray Player
 * Sony HT Receiver with Optical/Coax digital audio, no HDMI support

If I run the Audio direct from the Blu Ray player to the Amp the screen is about 100-140 ms behind the audio.

If I change the screen to Game Mode I'm still about 40ms off which is still annoyingly noticeable, plus image quality is degraded.

If I run the Audio via the screen I only get stereo audio on the amp as the screen doesn't do 5.1 pass though. Sync is perfect.

So at the moment my options appear to be
 * Get an optical Audio delay device from someone like Felston http://www.felston.com/dd540/index.htm
 * Fine a BluRay player than can manage its own Audio Sync
 * Upgrade the Amp to one which can manage Audio Sync
 * Live with stereo audio - Not really an option.

Playback of recorded TV via our myPVR isn't an issue as it can manage audio sync.

Has anyone here got other suggestions on how to fix this. I've already taken a look at the following thread
 * http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=34&topicid=66237

Is anyone using one of the Felston units or something similar for fixing this issue?

Also any suggestions on an appropriate Amp with sound delay and HDMI support. Sadly the budget has been blown on the TV already so I'm probably a bit stuffed looking at upgrading the Amp.

if it helps most Pioneer amps I have used have an audio sync option - can shift the delay either way in 5ms increments. Using HDMI tho I have never needed it.
A bonus if you get an upgraded amp - HD audio!

Long term a new amp is on the cards, but I was hoping to avoid it at this stage.

Which model do you have?

Some blu-ray players have an AV Sync option e.g the Sony BDP-S370 can delay the sound up to 120ms. I did a search for the word "sync" in the Samsung BD-C5500 manual, but no hits.

Personally...
I'd head towards a new amp. It avoids adding anything extra to your setup, in turn reducing clutter and complexity. The sound will be better - and if you get a half decent amp, it will up-scale all video sources. The new Pioneers have some nice video processing in some of the 2010 models (Pioneer have carried over a lot of their know-how from the Kuro plasma range - so it's good bang for the buck). Plus, as stated previously, the HD audio is a winner.
My $0.10.

VSX-1019 as per my sig, but it has a lot more features than "necessary" (if there is such a thing!)
Something like this would no doubt be an economical upgrade

JB Hifi have it for less than $600

You would need to check the manual to confirm audio sync options, but I'm pretty confident it will have it

I noticed something similar last night. Playing a blu ray disk on the PS3, hdmi to the Onkyo receiver, HDMI to the Samsung 7000 series plasma the audio was coming out after the picture.

Anyone know if there's a way to tweak things with the setup I have?

Sorry to thread-jack.

You'll probably have an audio delay feature on your Onkyo receiver.
Try adjusting it by 5ms at a time, and see where that gets you (make sure you only do it for the offending input though).

I think from mammary that there is an auto sync option for hdmi on some newer receivers. Guessing that gets a go command back from the TV once it's ready to display the visuals.

It would pay to aim for some for sort of auto or manual sync option in the receiver, but after that I'd look to upgrade the receiver rather than get some other piece of kit instead. That opens up the HD audio front as others have said too.
