Hi,

Bought a plasma TV this morning, and can't work out how to connect it to my MySky.

Have run a component cable between HD component video out on the MySky and component in on the TV, but the TV displays a message saying it can't find the source.

Is there something special I need to do?

Have you been running your MySky box via component previously? Or via HDMI?
Or... through composite or...?

What TV is it, and have you changed the TV to the correct source? Sometimes people have sources that have not been used, deleted from the menu... to reduce clutter. Will this be likely?

Thanks for the reply.

It was previously hooked up to a CRT, using composite (think that's it anyway - the red, white and yellow plugs) so its quite different.
The TV is a 50" Samsung plasma with a couple of component input, also HDMI and DVI and I think it's an optical sound connection too. Can't find a list of them in the user guide.
As you can probably tell from the sentence above, the world of video connections is pretty much a mystery to me so keeping any advice simple would be much appreciated!

If its a mysky HDI i suggest using an HDMI cable, you will never look back, however if you must use component i suggest you look at the setup menu , system setup, system settings, picture setting, video output setting you may need to change this setting to ensure the component is set to active

An HDMI cord sounds appealing... one cord cuts the clutter.
I'm not paying the extra for HD content at the moment, although I may do soon. Does that make a difference in terms of whether an HDMI connection will work?

No HDMI will pass non hd and hd content just fine and you will find 1,2 and 3 are hd anyway without the hd ticket. If you worried about the cost of an hdmi cable sky will most likely supply one for free if you give them a ring.

One last tip, if your going to purchase a HDMI cable, don't fall prey to really expensive cables, you shouldn't need to spend great expense, like no more than $40 for a standard length cable. Some stores try to sell people HDMI cables for $100-$200+.

For a 50" plasma / MySky combo - grab an HDMI cable.
But first, check your MySky box and see if the installer popped one in there when they installed the set top box for you. My installer did :-)

You'll not only get higher quality video via HDMI, the sound will also improve (plus you should just be able to 'plug and play'.
