Hi,

I've been using rvangelder's excellent FreeviewToXMLTV (http://vangelder.orcon.net.nz/files/FreeviewToXMLTV.zip
) to get an EPG into MediaPortal since March without any problems. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to run any more. It stops working and I get the following message if I run it in CMD.

Unhandled Exception: System.Exception: Validation Failure for XML http://listings.tvnz.co.nz/freeview/tvone_7days.xml? at line 1 position 117. The 'audio' attribute is not declared.
at FreeviewToXMLTV.Program.GetValidatedDocument(XmlReaderSettings settings, String url, String namespaceName) at FreeviewToXMLTV.Program.Main(String[] args)

Anyone else having this problems? Have Freeview added a new 'audio' attribute that is upsetting things? Any way to fix it?

Thanks

I get the same problem.  The change happened sometime between 6pm Mon (when it last worked for me) and 6pm Tue (when it failed to work).

I suppose we could try copying the source files, removing the tag and loading from file.  Might work.  Hopefully van Gelder will see this thread and modify the app.  If not, might be time to look at one of the other solutions.

Pity we can't pay money for a legitimate EPG in NZ.  Oh well.

There's really no need to pay money for a legitimate EPG.

I agree that's the best solution. The EPG collector is simply software that allows your HTPC to obtain the data that you need from the official Freeview broadcast programme guide.

Oblivion - the tool grabs the xml data from the Freeview website. If they didn't want people to use it they wouldn't put it there. Your view is kinda shallow and totally uninformed.

Stumpy B - you can pay if you want. Goto icetv.co.nz. Why you'd want to is another issue.

valtam - because EPG Collector locks up a tuner while your collecting data. This also means you must release the tuner from Media Center. Until it broke the tool only took a couple of seconds to run. You could happily keep recording in the background while this was going on.

There's more than one way to skin a cat, while the tool was working it was very effective. Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

RustyGonad - run a schedule in the middle of the night, unless you watch TV at 3am? Its not an issue.

I am the author of the tool. I'll fix it and put another version up soon.

WOW - I never thought of that...

What happens when your recording something, who gets the tuner(s)? what happens when you kill the ehrec service to free up the tuner? what happens when you restart the service, and the recordings already been killed due to lack of signal?

FYI - I know how EPGCollector works - I use it for Sky.

The point is with the tool being discussed you don't have to worry. Run it anytime you want... Ten times a day if you want - no stopping the ehrec service, no tuner or recording conflicts to worry about, nothing.

You may not like simplicity, but I do...

More than a little irony in that statement, given you were trying to suggest alternatives in the first place... :)  Maybe you should try it, you might find it quite useful... LMAO

rvangelder - Great tool Rob - keep up the good work!

Thanks for pointing this out to me. Actually I had missed the whole EPG forum! I should have added this post there. When did that get added? Shows how attentive I am. Just used to using HTPC is the past.

The reason why I've been using FreeviewToXMLTV is that it is free and I just ran it and it worked, simple, no mucking around setting things up. In comparison the EPG Collector instructions look quite lengthy! If Rob is able to fix his program in a timely fashion then I'll probably just stick with it. Thanks Rob!

I'll likely fix it tonight. It'll be an easy fix, I'm sure.

You're very welcome amigo Smile, its been around for a while. I used it with MediaPortal when I had DVB-T.
If you need any help with it at all, just pm me and I'll be happy to walk you through it. Since you already were using something that you were familiar and comfortable with, it would be best to wait for rvangelder's fix. Good luck mate Smile

WOW - I never thought of that...

Here's an even brighter idea.  Why don't you schedule it to run yesterday.  I never have upcoming recordings on my media center for yesterday.  Problem solved!

I'm clever.
