You wouldn't believe this, but yesterday I put a cup of tea on the floor below my couch, and accidentally bumped my remote control which went head first into the cup of tea. The tea wasn't directly below the remote but a little to the side. If I tried deliberately to do this for 100 years I bet I couldn't do it.
It gave my girlfriend, who saw it happen, a huge amount of amusement.

What I would like to know is; is there a way of replacing this remote with out getting ripped off just because I want a spare part.

If this is not on topic then I apologise in advance, and will be happy for polite suggestions on where it should be posted

If you have a few remotes, check out the Harmony range from Logitech, now that i've had it, I don't want to go back, even against the cheap one-for-all remotes it's not the same. Configurable activities and not having to switch between devices to adjust things is incredibly handy. And setup was fairly straight forward for my gear.

Some of the entry level ones on pricespy are pretty decent. I got mine off 1day last year. Charging station makes it handy, even now battery lasts a few weeks of tough use.

May be a cheaper option than replacing the original remote, although i'd still consider it if not.

NzBeagle: check out the Harmony range from Logitech

+1

It stores your profile online, so when you spill something on the next one you can buy another, and upload the profile to it.  Seriously though, just get one, they really are that good.

Quite a few range. From 515 to H1100i (avoid 300 though, as it's not as smart or configurable as all other ones).

Yeah they all essentially did the same thing, so they brought in a range with a limited number of devices in addition to the different physical looks.

So watch out you get one that can replace enough devices for your needs, and then shop on feel and looks like colour screens etc.

I'm sure with a bit more thought I could have written all this a lot clearer.

Thanks everyone for taking the time out to reply.
The Logitech Remote looks interesting so I will have a look at that.
Cheers

Bit late here, but I would definitely recommend going the Harmony way. Sooo much easier.

Did you take out the batteries straight away?
If so, take it apart , clean it up, and away you go!

I bought a Harmony 525 a year or so ago - It does chew through the batteries but its very powerful - Seems to just about work around corners!

Only thing I found was a couple of the devices keys stopped working - A google showed quite a lot of people had issues with buttons on Logitech remotes. I managed to pull it apart and put it back together and it seems fixed for now.

I also have a Panasonic viera and the remote is quite a nice one to use - are you sure you cant clean it up? Give it a day or two to dry out.

Me too.  Swapped to the eneloop equivalent low internal discharge rechargeables and get a real good run out of them now.

Can't fault it, and as I said earlier this model literally does 90% of the higher end stuff, just without a colour screen/charging cradle etc.

Highly recommend any of them though.  Bit of a learning curve to get up to speed, and it really requires a TV with discrete input commands to be honest, but yeah, could still use it as a direct device remote replacement even without the power of the Activity function.  There's a heap of info we've all contributed here on GZ too.
