Been offered a Panasonic Plasma TV TH-50PY800AZ 1920 x 1080 by a mate who's leaving our fair shores. Its 2 years old but looks like good technology

2nd hand gear is a risk however $1500 seems like  a good price for this TV

Keen to know if people have had good experiences with this TV and do you think $1500 is a good price?

Thanks Heaps

The replacement price is probably less than half what he paid for it new. The prices on big TVs have dropped a lot in the last couple of years

Sorry - wasnt trying to be cryptic - I was suggesting that there are some new 50" panasonic full-HD plasmas (TH-P50U20Z) from around $1800+ brand new - granted his model may have been a more expensive model at the time (than the one I mentioned), but the technology now may well be better in the cheaper one I mentioned than in his.

I think his price may be a bit on the high side.

PS Also - If you buy new you get the warranty and they have to deliver it for you. Moving a large glass panel plasma TV is to be approached with caution!

The PY800's were awesome TV's and would poo all over the TH-P50U20. The PY800's are more like todays TH-P50V20 only don't think it has freeview but the intelligent frame creation works on any signal were as the V20 only works on 24p signals if I remember correctly.

And Japanese made I think? The PY800's and PZ850's were great TV's better than the current made in china range.

Its a shame how some brands take backwards steps every now and again Frown.

Offer him $1000, but to get a new TV with the almost same spec's and quality you will be paying about $2600ish? (For the 50V20)

Oh and check if he got an extended warranty generally they are transferable for peace of mind.

Yeah, we have two of them and they have been great panels. But as said above, $1000 second hand in todays market would be the most I would pay.
