I have an EH60 with scart to scart connecting them, works fine.

What are you using?

HiThis is what I haveSky SCART sockets which say TV and VCR plus an red; white; yellow and orange av socketsPanasonic EH50 has two SCART one marked AV2 (decoder) and the other AV1 (TV)  There are also AV in and out *red/white/yellow) plus it has S video in and out and component video out terminal (yellow blue green)our TV is a Phillips and has the following. and HDMI slot, a PC-VGA/CVI, and AV (red/white/yellow and s-video) a monitor out (red/white/yelow) and a CVI (red/white/yellow blue green).Hope you follow all that. Now I have connected the Sky SCART marked TV to the AV via the sky supplied cable (SCART to AV)I have connected the Sky SCART marked VCR to the HDD SCART MARKED AV2 via a SCART to AV and back to SCART lead (mine)I have connected the HDD to our TV via the component out terminal (on the HDD) and to the TV via the CVI input(I have ignored the sound leads in the hope that this isn't all too confusing. What I now have is Sky on the AV channel in the TV and nothing else.  When I try and set the HDD it says there is no input signal and hence no picture.I need to be able to record from SKY.(PS if I play back a recorded DVD there's no problem what so ever)Help - please!!!!!merlin

Why are you using "SCART to AV and back to SCART"? Why not just scart to scart?

I presume you can get a signal with an av-to-av set of leads - have you tried that?

Back when I had Sky Digital, I seem to recall there was a config setup in the decoder box where you choose the scart output - composite vs s-video I think and maybe component. Settable separately per scart. Depends on the decoder model too.

Thanks,  As for the cable(s) their what I had or came with the HDD. However I can't get any input from the SKY digital.  I have just checked the SKY digital and you can configure the SCART's they are component at the moment.  Any ideas - anyone - please - (next step is the good old universal spanner (for that read - hammer)!!!!!!!

I don't know what "SCART to AV and back to SCART" means - is that two cables that you plugged in end-to-end?

You haven't said whether you tried an av-to-av set of leads. That would be the safest option to get something working.

I would have thought Component is the last thing you would want the decoder scart output set to. When you say AV I presume you mean composite - two audio RCA plugs and one video RCA plug. You could try setting the decoder's VCR scart to composite. You can set the two scarts separately on your decoder model, right?

You could also try contacting Sky. Have you checked their website?

Hi John and thanks for your hep so far.  By SCART to AV and back to SCART I mean that at the one end of the cable there is a SCART plug which then rens into a cable whihc then has at it's other end AV leads RED/WHITE AND YELLOW.  These i have pluged into a SCART to AV plug (hope this makes sense.  Now what follows is the chain I have.  From the SKY digital box I have gone from the VCR SCART outlet to the HDD AV2 SCART input via  a SCART lead and SCART/AV plug (as described above).  From the HDD I have gone using the TV via the Red/Blue/Green output from the HDD to the CVI input on the TV (using AV leads).  The result is nothing.  I ought to add that I have a SCART lead direct from the SKY box to the TV via the TV's AV input.  If pictures would help I'll take some.Any ideas?

So you can watch dvds on the tv, and see the EH50's menus etc on the tv, right? And you can see the sky signal on the tv?

What happens if you plug the scart to av cable into the EH50's AV in jacks?

Do you have a url to a pdf for the EH50?

Hi Johnthat's a yes. We can watch a pre-recorded DVD by selecting CVI from the TV and we can watch the TV channels via the AV on the TV menu.  Also I can see the set up menu from the HDD (on teh TV).  But when I go to set it up, either in auto or manual, the HDD says it can-not get any signal/channels and correspondly we can't use the HDD to record from the SKY digital box.  As for url or pdf sorry - no,  only have the paper manuals that came with everything.  I have looked at the Panasonic website and that was no help what so ever. Thanks for your time.

Merlin, I have the DMR-E100H model, and I have a pdf I found somewhere for the E85H (support>manuals on their website?). I presume the E50H is similar.

To set up the HDD's tuner, you need RF input. Usually you plug your antenna into the HDD's RF in, and then from the HDD's RF out to the TV's RF in. There should be a picture of this in the doc. This is just for the free-to-air channels you get from the antenna.

To get Sky input, point your HDD to AV2 or AV1 or wherever. The HDD cannot change Sky channels. Whatever channel you tuned the decoder to is what the HDD will get on AV2.

So when it is all set up properly, you will be able to set the HDD to record from FTA channels, or from the Sky decoder (AV2). So if you want someting from Sky Movies at midnight and sky sport at 3am, you have to get up and change the decoder channel in between.

yep understand all that John amd that's what I thought I'd be getting but - er NO!  We can't really get a free to air picture here (well not one that you'd want to watch for a time anyway), hence our SKY.  The SKY works well but for some reason I can not get the HDD to see the signal from teh SKY decoder.  I've done all the things suggested and nothing.  Any ideas?

So, did you connect an antenna to the RF in and complete auto-setup? According to the manual (see http://www.panasonic.com.au/support/downloads/, search for DMR-EH50) you can use Setup to restart auto-setup. It may not let you do things until that is done.

After watching a dvd, you should be able to eject the dvd, and then (without changing anything on the tv) do channel up and down on the EH50, going through AV1, AV2, AV3, DV etc. Have you tried this? What happens when you do?

Hi JohnI've tried the auto set up and all it comes back with is "unable to find any channels do you want to try again - YES=NO"  and when I try again I get the same, AGAIN and AGAIN!!.  This is the problem.  for some reaon it does not seem to want to pick up the signal from the SKY digital box.  We don't have an RF signal as we don't have an ariel. After warching a DVD we have to resetteh TV to the AV input if we want to watch anything.   (AV being the input from the SKY box)Thanks for your time JohnMerlin

I'd bet you need an RF signal to complete auto-setup. Plug SOMETHING into the Eh50's RF in and do auto-setup again.

Most devices output signals both in av-type format and rf format. RF format is like what you get over an antenna. So long ago, vcrs would output their signal on ch 12 or whatever, in case your tv didn't have av connections, adding that ch 12 signal to the rf signal fed into it from the antenna and presenting it to the RF out jack. So you might have channels 2, 6 and 8 coming from the antenna into the vcr, and channels 2, 6, 8 and 12 coming out of the vcr and into the tv. Tune the tv to ch 12 and you see vcr output.

The RF out on the decoder box may send a signal on ch38 or something. Also, your vcr may output a signal on ch6 or whatever. Use an rf cable from one of those into the EH50 and see if that helps you get through auto-setup.

Hi JohnSorry I've not been ignoring you and your help - work (curse of the drinking classes), got in the way.Happy to report SUCCESS.  I purchased a proper SCART lead as the adaptor ones seemed to have the word input on them and that didn't seem right.  Anyway the shop bought SCART lead seems to have done the trick.  I now have SKY digital on an A2 input to the HDD and I can record!  Wooopeee.  Now I just have to master teh art of recording!!!  Many thanks for the helpMerlin
