Hi..

Please forgive me, as I am not sure on some of the correct technical words for things.

I currently have my Philips 29inch Flatscreen TV connected to my Nvidia 8600 GT - it came with a HDMI, VGA and VIDEO ports.  I know the TV is old - but we had the Tube replaced under warranty 2 years ago, so it still has more life in her yet.

So I plug my TV into the Video port though a little device that has 4 connectors - SVIDout, Y- Green, Pr-Red and PB/AV - Blue.  The comcord Coaxial cable from Jaycar is plugged into the Blue and this is then plugged into my Video player at the Yellow AV In connection.  I also have my sound plugged into the white and red connectors next to this and then my sound is handled my my Pioneer Amplifier.  I don't know if there is a better way, but this way has worked for 3 years.

So my problem is...

I just got myself a new computer as this old one with the 8600GT is going to the kids for christmas.  But I realised I don't have the same connections on my new graphics card.  Opps.

My new graphics card is Nvidia GT 220 and only has HDMI connection, D-sub Monitor connector (15pin) and DVI-I connector.

So my Digitel LCD monitor will go in the DVI-I connector.  That one is easy.

But do I have to buy special pluggy connector thingys to plug in my normal TV?  I don't know the names for such thingys if they exist.  We don't have a HDMI TV yet as our first priority was a PC for the kids.  And the HDMI is next on our list.

And speaking of HDMI connector cables - how long are these? As my current cable is about 15 metres.

If it is not possible to connect the new computer to the TV, we can still use this computer from the 25 Dec - when the kids open it - as all machines are networked and in the same room.  But it would also be nice to use this machine if the other machine is in use.

I look forward to hearing from someone who can understand everything above and is able to help me out.

Do you need it to go though the video player? That may limit your options so it might be better to go direct to the TV.

What inputs does the TV have? Does it have component? That will give you the best picture. You can use something like this -> http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Cables-adaptors/Monitor/auction-337659158.htm
Please note I have never used a HDMI to Component cable so I am not sure how well it works.

Yes I do, as the 5.1  sound is handled through that - via the Pinoneer reciever/amp thingy.

There aren't many plugs on the back of my tv to plug things in.

Plus Sky is plugged into the DVD player too.

That could do it, but I would need an extension to make it long enough to plug into the tv in the lounge.

Now that I have a name for the device, I could go into Jaycar and see what they say.
