For some reason my fresh install of win7 is not using the gpu for live tv in media center so it's running at 100% cpu.

any advice?

it's a pentium d 2.8ghz
8300gs latest drivers
nova-t 500 latest drivers

No additional codecs installed?

OK have you made sure you have all the drivers loaded for your mobo? If the correct drivers for the PCI-e controller are not loaded this can cause issues with video.

Follow one of the codec guides online. I like the MediaBrowser one for setting it up for use with ffdshow which covers most day to day options. http://community.mediabrowser.tv/permalinks/2046/guide-setting-up-codecs-using-ffdshow

Windows 7 works perfectly with the MS codecs out of the box for NZ Freeview|HD.  No need to use any 3rd party codecs unless you are needing to play mkv's or similar.
