Hello.

I have been having problems accessing BD-Live on some discs:

  • "UP" (Disney) - no BD Live access outside to those outside USA and Canada.

  • "Inception" (Warner Bros.) - error "We're sorry, Warner Bros. BD-live is not available to you at this time" when logging in. Yet when first supplying email address limited access to the portal does work.

  • "Hangover" (Warner Bros.) same error as "Inception".

  • "How to train your dragon" (Dreamworks) - "General Error...." I forget the wording.

Working for me:

  • "Terminator Salvation" (Sony)

  • "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs" (Sony)

  • "Star Trek" (Paramount)

Anyone else have similar results? Player is a Sony BDP-S370 with latest firmware. Thanks in advance.

Reply from support regarding Hangover: "...Unfortunately BD-Live is not available in your area for this title..."

Yet, the disc was purchased in NZ and has "BD Live" written on the back cover.

I thought BD Live was just one of those lame marketing things that did nothing all the time?
You mean it actually works 'some of the time'?
Holy crap... it may be better than I thought!

In my first post: "Player is a Sony BDP-S370 with latest firmware"

After hearing back from both WB and Disney, it appears that the Disney BD-Live portal is not available outside the USA and Canada, and that WB's BD-Live portal is not available in NZ for some titles.

Both my discs have "BD Live" on the box and on the disc. There is no indication on the packaging (that I can see) that this feature will not work in our region.

No idea why BD-Live doesn't work on the Dreamworks disc. And I haven't tried another player.

Have you considered returning them to the place you bought them from?  If BD Live is an important part of your decision to buy them then they owe you a refund.

The receipts are probably gone now. We probably still would've bought the discs anyway.

Interestingly, the FAQ on the paramountblu-ray.com website says "...Any BD-Live features may be available only in the United States...". The FAQ on the disneybdlivenetwork.com website says "At this time, the Disney BD-Live Network is available in the United States and Canada". Shouldn't this be clearly marked on the case?

As BD disks are region based you would of thought if the service was not available in NZ they would have removed that from the Menu/Information on the Cover of the Case...

But 'our' region is not only sold in NZ...
And on top of that, there are many multi-region BluRay discs out there.
It's a niggle, but hardly worthy of a refund in my eyes.
Personally, I buy a movie to watch the movie, not the extra on-line content.

This "Up" disc is region B & C (USA is region A) and also comes with a Region 4 DVD. The cover says that it shouldn't be be sold outside of Australia (even though it was bought in NZ) - but Disney BD-Live portal is for USA and Canada only.

Our region isn't sold in North America though and as the BD Live features only work in USA and Canada you would think that the option to access them wouldn't exist in any region other than 'A'. One could only assume that they must be planning to open the BD Live features to the rest of the world at a later date.
