Posted in the hope that Scott reads Geekzone... epg.xml hasn't been updated for several days... guide data runs out today I think. Greatly appreciate it if you could give it some love mate?

I have found that it seems to not update for a few days at the beginning of each week. Should have come right today but I can't check till I get home.

Really? I hadn't noticed that. Anyhoo, it's not been updated today, and with the guide data running out tomorrow it really does seem like there's a problem...

Hey guys

I am also noticing that my guide is running out at midnight tonight as well.

Currently using HT epg.xml with Big Screen. Using Big screen it seems to load a lot of data from the epg.xml and successfully loads the MXF into media centre.

However it does not appear in media centre after the MXF import.

Thanks in advance Smile

If you are using Media Center, why not use the EPG Collector instead (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=126&topicid=61903)?

Nice idea, but last I looked you need a Sky dish, and I am on Telstra cable. Or has it changed somehow?

You don't need a Sky dish. You need any EPG source. I am using it with Freeview|HD. My tuner is a HDHomeRun for example, a network tuner - not even a TV card, since I am using a Dell Zino HD (too small for anything else in the box).

It wasn't even written for Sky actually - it was for Freeview|HD MHEG5. The EIT came as a consequence. Basically it works with anything that works in Windows.

Hi

You mention that you are using EPG collector. I have the same hardware setup on one of my media centres using the HD Homerun. I am really struggling to setup the EPG collector and have read the Geekzone forum and also the 'readme' file that comes with EPG Collector.

There is a specific area devoted to the HD Homerun talking about allowing access to the network? How does one ensure that EPG Collector can gain acces to the 'virtual' tuners without getting a silent error?

Any help on setting EPG Collector up on the HD Homerun would be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks

Hmmm. I had the impression that if you only had a freevew tuner that you would only get listings for freeview channels. This is incorrect? I have a freeview tuner in my pc...

@SpudInNZ if your turner is a terrestrial only tuner then you are correct you can only get the EPG for freeview. However if you have a satellite tuner then you can get epg data for Freeview and subscription channels

OK well have been meaning to switch for awhile but while it was not broken why fix it.... So now that haventech has broken again I took the plunge and finally setup EPG collector. For me the only complication was that I have both Freeview and Telstra digital TV connected so needed EPG data for both. I could have just dragged it all of the Sat feed but I preferred the idea of using Freeview's HD MHEG5 for the Freeview channels and sky's sat data for everything else.
The trick I found was to start with the example config files that come with the program and just modify them if necessary. I then setup Sat first and added terrestrial which is simpler to setup. It is then a simple matter of selecting the feeds you want to use, save the config and setup a scheduled task to run epg collector and then BSE.

I had to then rejig MC to the new EPG feeds and will need to check again once the old data has run out to make sure I am still not using any of the old feeds but in the end it was quite painless and should now be a lot more robust as I am now using the same sources that all Freeview's and Sky's boxes use.

You have to make sure the EPG Collector is completely unblocked in your firewall, since it needs to get to the network to reach the HDHomeRun.

Since this could go way off topic, if you need more help open a new thread.

I'm using haventech with big screen and is well with mine this morning. Didn't notice what it was like last night

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

That's good news. However to be honest I have found haventech of late to be a little unreliable. As mentioned I have noticed that it seems to fairly regularly not be updated for days and on occasion has, like this time got to within a day or two of completely running out before it is fixed. There is also the ever present danger that Sky or similar will send the guy a cease and desist notice and it will go down for good.
Considering it is now possible to cut out the middle man with epg collector and have your MC work like the official dedicated EPG enabled PVR's it is worth setting it up as your source anyway.

Hi guys - sorry about the problems. I had a look last night and it should be fixed now.

I somehow missed the fact that EPG collector could grab the Sky channels - it's great that there is now an easier way for people to grab their own listings!

Thanks for the update. By the way do not get me wrong I am eternally grateful for the service that you have and continue to provide. For a long time was critical to the success of my media centre. So a very big thankyou!
However understandably as a fee service it will never get the same attention that something like Sky's EPG data gets as it is part of their paid service and a critical part at  that. So as I said thank you for the time and effort that you have put in and please do not take my recommendation to use epg collector as anything against the service you have provided. It is simply a case that there is now an option that does not require web sites to be scraped for the epg data.
Obviously for some people that do not have a satellite dish or tuner but do have paid TV it will continue to be critical for them.
