Hi guys
just 2 days back i bought LG LED (47LE7500) tv and picture is great(under right conditions). the issue am facing is the glossy screen so reflective and impossible to watch during daytime and night time also it bit difficult. yes i can switch off lights but thats not practical on day to day watching.

i wonder any of you have similar glossy tvs and have a workaround?

just want to check with you guys first before heading to store to return it if they take it.

I have a glossy Viera 50" Plasma. Not the best during the day - I tend to close the curtains.

Absolutely brilliant at night.

our loung is quite bright. we close blinds but makes little difference. what bothers most is even night watching can be quite reflective too!

i wonder if there any pictures settings we can tweak to make it better.we liked the picture so much we find it little hard giving it back.

Just go through everything and see if you get improvement. Can you put the TV against a different wall with less windows/doors opposite it (think Feng Shui for your TV).

when we built house we wanted good light come into house and its designed accordingly . its facing north and gets excellent light throught the day . change any other wall hardly makes any difference on top of that we've home theatre speakers wiring done inside the walls so cant change tv position :(

One thing you could try at night is put the light behind the TV. So the light is directed at the ceiling and not directly at the screen.

yes wmoore that would work. but many times you watch tv while doing something else at home feeding a baby,wife cooking etc., and this makes non-practical light behind tv.

looks like i dont have choice but to look for alternative tvs ! hopefully store would take this tv back

Have you got it wall-mounted? I find that mounting them on the wall and angling them forward reduces quite a bit of glare. I too live in a house with lots of North and west facing windows in the lounge and I never have a glare issue with the TV. It is raked about 10 degrees forward on a wall mount even though it is at a height level with our heads when we are sitting down.

You could try just getting someone to tip it forward while you are watching it to see if it will make a difference.

no afraid, its on the table stand. it swivels left & right but not up & down

How about placing some floor standing lamps by your seats and other work areas. So the light is directed on the seats and not the TV. If the light behind the TV is bright enough and is focused on the ceiling. It should be bright enough.

Get a matt (non-glossy) LCD TV.

LED TV
Great because its very thin and looks nice on the wall.
Not great because they are very reflective.

Yours is not on the wall anyway, so wont make a difference.

If you are looking to swap for a non-glossy model, you could go for the LG LE5510 which is is very similar except for the design.

yes i noticed that when i went to back to store yesterday. but store would not swap the tv. they say they'll change if there is any fault with the tv not because i dont like it!!

How did you pay? did you discuss the lighting of the room with the sales people and they said to get the LED?

That is pretty poor service. Several retailers will allow you to return it and switch it for another if you aren't happy. If they sold you the LED edge lit TV and said it would suit your condiditions, then they should swap it, as a glossy screen is never a good idea in a bright room. However it does sound like your room isn't suitable for a TV screen at all, due to it being too bright. IT would be simailr to viewing it outside, which is very difficult with any TV.

What store did you buy it from?
The sales person should bring the room lighting into account when selling you a TV... that would be a basic part of the process I'd have thought.
