I have used the component video output available on the MySky SCART TV outlet through to a Receiver with switching capability on Component video to a large Plasma screen. This gives me both a DVD player and MySky on Component Video.
I also connected to the Optical Digital sound output from MySky in the hope of receiving Dolby 5.1 that SKY has promised (one day!)
All works fine, except the volume control and mute button on the remore control no longer works?
grateful to hear from any other users that have run into this problem?

Try the other SCART connection - from memory I think the VCR SCART has a fixed volume level.

The optical output is fixed so the volume/mute controls have to impact on it.

Thanks for your comments.
I am using the TV SCART, if it is fixed volume why does the Mute not work?
Understand that other user of MySky have experienced problems with the volume control on the remote.
Has anyone successfully run the decoder using the Composite Video and optical audio outputs??
Jack.

Just tried my one - when using the digital out (coax - didn't have optical cable) the volume doesn't work on the remote.

Thanks CT,
Replaced the Optical Audio with the audio output from the SCART TV socket and found remote volume and Mute now works OK.
So looks like the Optical audio is fixed volume and Mute is not available.
I assume SKY may introduce Dolby 5.1 when their new satelite comes into operation later this year (Or so I heard on the gossip mill). It is a pity that SKY does not make their technos available to the public to answer these type of questions and give their customers some uptodate info on what they are planning. it's not going to be very friendly to have to control the volume and mute from the receiver.
I will ask SKY why the Optical output cannot be modulated.
Regards,
Jack.

In most electronic devices he optical output is a direct bitstream feed that doesn't undergo any onboard processing. The scart and composite outputs on the otherhand undergo processing of the audio. The setup on MySky isn't any different to any other piece of hardware and the onboard volume control isn't really designed to be the master volume for the device it is merely to set the volume so you can match it to any other devices plugged into a TV/receiver etc.
