Hi Guys
I have mythtv and would like to know what is the best tv tuner card to have to recieve freeview, Also is there a software programme for being able to recieve channels from around the world not just NZ ?

I've got a Hauppauge Nova T-500, works very well with MythTV, but try and avoid the "diversity antenna" version, it has two antenna sockets on the back, versus only one for the original version. I have both of these and while the diversity one works with a bit of fiddling I don't think the signal is as strong, perhaps the signal amplifier is not as good, I'm not sure. If you do end up with one of these, don't try feeding the same antenna into both sockets or you'll get no signal at all (took me a while to figure out that this was my problem).

So go for the single antenna socket version if you can find it (it's a couple of years old now, might have to go second hand), they are often both marketed under the same model number. They both have dual DVB-T tuners and if you are using VDPAU with the latest nVidia drivers you'll get stunning "Full HD" with very little CPU usage. Google "mythtv nova t-500" for more info.

As for viewing TV from around the globe, I'm not too sure sorry. I don't do much of that (barely have time for the TV we have here).

I've got a Hauppage Nova- T 500 as well with Mythbuntu. Mine does have two antenna plugs, but after reading a lot I believe the latest ones are not the troublesome diversity models.

Mine works fine and required only a little playing around to get it working in the mythbuntu 10.

I've heard that the newer model Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2200 is a much better card though, so would be looking at one of these.

Also a quick question, are you planning on using satellite or terrestrial? These cards mentioned are terrestrial only.

I am thinking of using satalite if i am able to use one of the connections on the sky LMB.

You can't get HD freeview off satellite I'm afraid and you need to get a compatible DVB-S Card.

For DVB-T I recommend the HVR-2200 which is an excellent dual tuner card which works well with MythTV.
