Damn, I only just ordered last week! I got the Torchwood collection, seasons 1-3 for less than 32 pounds, PLUS postage. But still, compared to prices here it was a great deal.

isn't a massive proportion of digital media not available from Amazon to NZ due to licensing etc.

Not the stuff I'm interested in. I've found a lot of british comedy available through Amazon UK which isn't available in NZ.  I'm just off to order the box set of the "new" Doctor Who (S1-4) for about $100NZD (saving about $300 on NZ retailers...

Yes, but we aren't talking about digital media.

LP, CD, BD, DVD, books etc.

Stuff you can hold in your hot little hands.

Cool

Do BluRays have the same region coding system that dvds have?

ie. If purchasing BluRay discs from amazon uk, will there be problems with playback in NZ?

No, the UK is region B, the same as us.

Same as NZ or region B. The U.S. is region A.

Thanks for the heads-up. Might do some shopping tonight....

There doesn't seem to be a restriction on what they can sell us in terms of CD, DVD & BluRay, as I've ordered quite a few titles before they were available here. BluRay is the same zone as NZ, but DVD is region 2 (from memory) where we're region 4, but in my case that's no problem.

Amazon DO however restrict sales of some other stuff. I was after a NAS box a while back, and they were a good deal cheaper through Amazon UK than any NZ supplier. Got all the way to the check-out to be told that the item can only be sold to a UK address. Worked out for the best though, as I managed to source the same product out of Hong Kong for even less :-)

Another thing to note, for those that haven't shopped on-line in the UK before, is that if the price is listed as inc. VAT you can pretty much calculate the landed NZ cost as a direct currency conversion. By the time they take off VAT (17.5%) and add postage you're back at the listed price or possibly even ahead.

VAT is now 20% in the UK, it was increased from 17.5% in January - so you should see a better price improvement when VAT is deducted at the checkout. Amazon and all of the big online retailers handle VAT correctly, but some smaller retailers don't deduct VAT as they should when selling outside of the European Union - they just make a bigger profit on those sales!

I was having a hard time thinking of titles to look for to make use of this offer - perhaps people could post suggestions of titles they've found on Amazon UK that aren't readily available here in our own little backwater... ;-)

I just ordered Life (BBC) - something I've been waiting a year for to be released over here; I would have thought something like this would have been out here ages ago.

Unable to think of any other blu-ray titles off the top of my head, I also ordered The Crippled God; the 10th, and final, Malazan Book of the Fallen. It'll be out here in a few days (apparently), but much cheaper from Amazon UK. Awesome.

Any suggestions of blu-ray titles over there that aren't available here would be greatly welcomed.

Not sure about blu ray, but I've just ordered s1-4 of the "new" Dr Who, the David Tennant specials, and The Thick of It on DVD. Ive never found The Thick of It to buy, andtThe Dr Who boxset alone would cost the better part of $400NZD but I've got all the above for $142NZD shipped. Bargain!

I mostly use it to buy British comedy, which is woefully under-represented in NZ stores.
